can’t get out of HTML

Over a week ago I contacted WP support about the unbelievable amount of p*rn*graphic spam I keep receiving – no response. Emailed a “happiness engineer” – no response. Now I can only write posts in the HTML mode – there are not even any tabs.
I did nothing to cause it, my ISP has not changed, I use a computer no one else has access to and have done all the usual things support says to do before they say they have no idea what it is. WP support never responded and are now unavailable until Sept 19.
Anyone have any suggestions?

First off, everyone gets porn spam. As long as Akismet is catching it, there is no problem. If some are getting through, then mark them as spam and Akismet will learn and start catching them shortly. One way to keep them from sneaking through to your blog is to set your comments so that first-time commenters have to be moderated at settings > discussion.
Once in a while the editor settings seem to randomly change for some people. Go to users > personal settings and at the top of that page, deselect “Disable the visual editor when writing” and then click the save changes button.

Not sure why a simple filter with those words or that ISP can’t be used to stop them from ever getting to me. They come from the Seychelles. I pasted some of it into the support form and never heard back. I wonder if I got tagged as one of those sites.
How often do these types of randoms things keep happening to the same some people. Somebody had to have done something because I’m the only one with access.
Vopod no longer works. And the front of my blog is all messed up with posts side by side. I’ve tried two browswers and it looks the same.
Has someone hacked in to my account or into wordpress at large? What kind of brainstorming is going on at support?
Curious also is how these problems got worse after I paid to stop having ads put on my site.

If they continue over a period of time, then Akismet will know that they are a “known” spammer and then it will start blocking them and you will not see them. The thing is though, spammers know this so they are constantly moving their operations to new domains and using entirely different email addresses and such in an attempt to beat the system, so it is a continuous battle.
The change to HTML only on the editor just happens randomly for some unknown reason, and not very frequently. Sometimes I think an update to wordpress has cause similar things.
The likelihood of someone hacking into wordpress proper is virtually zero. This is an incredibly secure place. Individual accounts though are only as strong as the password being used by the blogger. Always keep your password strong, and change it every so often. Basically if you can remember it, it isn’t strong enough.
Also, keep your email passwords strong and change them regularly also (the one associated with your account).
Keep your computer virus/malware/adware software up to date and scan regularly to make sure it is clean
It’s also my policy to never blog or log into my account from someone else’s, or a public computer.
The fact that it happened after the upgrade is coincidental.

A while after I checked that visual editor, the front page realigned properly and I could use vopod as of yesterday.
But the problems continue. I just signed in and I can’t access the drop down menu on my dashboard or anywhere else. Ever since I checked off that visual editor, everything I type gets “copied” so I wanted to uncheck it but I can’t access it.
Also, on new posts, the – I don’t know what they’re called – the buttons (bold, italics, quotes, links) for both HTML and visual are there and I can’t switch between the tabs.
At this point it’s clear something/someone has accessed something since I signed out yesterday. And I don’t find it a coincidence that this is happening when support is unavailable for the next 9 days.
Thank God you have been so kind to help me because how else would I have gotten any help.
In what countries are the support people who have access to my accounts? My blog content is not exactly noncontroversial.
The nasty spam hasn’t let up either. When I signed in, there were 132. Akimet is filtering some as they have stopped 38,442 since this blog started. The long lists of filthy links sent by the same ISPs have not stopped. The referrals from frees*xmoviesDOTiwanaf keep coming, which is most disturbing, and the fake referrals have been increasing (insurance, credit cards, mesothelioma), so at this point I have no idea how many of the 1900 hits yesterday and the 1348 hits today are actual readers.
I know this is none of your problem. I would greatly appreciate whatever you can help you can provide. Thanks again.

Staff are distributed all around the world.
They are doing lots of tinkering, so if I were you I’d just leave things alone for now. If they keep to the usual form, things will get WORSE tomorrow (if it bothers you, don’t even look at the site) and then better again on Monday.

Hey Raincoaster. Thank you. Why didn’t they warn bloggers and why aren’t they telling us what exactly they are doing? And most importantly – why are they not available to support when they are doing all these things?
My blog isn’t “free” – I am a paying customer – and it’s nothing other than censorship. Which is why I wondered in what countries people have access to my blog. Thanks again.

They never warn people and they would rather just DO things than take time away from doing them to explain things. That’s what volunteers like me are here for.
Why are they not available to support while doing these things? I have never figured that out.
And oh for GOD’s SAKE it isn’t censorship. It’s just technical glitches. If you want specific help with specific issues, the least you can do is follow the instructions at the top of the forum about how to get help: give us the URL of the blog, starting with http.
