Can't get photos to be enlargeable with new publishing interface

For background – I’m using the Atrium theme and here’s a link to an example of the issue.

I have a movie blog that runs a “Pic of the Day” – for which I try to find very high resolution photos. Under the old WordPress publishing interface, those photos would be selectable when published – meaning you could click on them and a new window would open with the full-resolution photo. Here’s an example from an older post.

Since I started using the new WordPress interface, the photos that I put up for my “Pic of the Day” are not selectable and cannot be enlarged. So instead of having the option to view a photo I put up today in 4K resolution, only a 1K version is accessible. Any way to fix this?

Is anyone else having this problem or is it specific to the Atrium theme?

Also, it used to be possible to bypass the new publishing interface and use the old one, which I preferred. Is that no longer the case?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
