Can’t get posted in two categories

  • Unknown's avatar

If I tag or categorize a post as ‘cooking’ my post goes to ‘quark’. When I tag a post ‘three sisters’ it simply doesn’t show. I’ve tried both categories and tags for these and have tried with more than one entry. I see a new poster on three sisters so it’s not excluding everything. Thanks for any suggestions you can provide. Everything else going well with blog.

I’m a bit confused. I just looked at your blog and I see the category “cooking” under categories, -no “quark”, no “three sisters”. I did a search on your blog for “three sisters” and came up with two posts tagged as such.

The difference between tags and categories

Thank you for looking at this. It’s sort of tricky as cooking and Three Sisters show up fine on my site. You’re absolutely right, it looks normal but I don’t think it is a tags vs, categories issue. Also I have played with it a moving the two titles back and forth from tags and categories to check. However, if you, for example look at the latest post for food, go to that you’ll see
Rose Marie wrote 18 hours ago: Each cupcake contains two grams of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids
Filed under: Food, Recipes, cooking | Tagged: baking, dessert, pumpkin, squash…if you click on pumpkin, a fairly quiet area you’ll see
    Tags: Flock, Food, Recipes
I really mislead you for writing quark instead of flock and have no idea what part of the brain that flew out of. I am so sorry. The Three Sisters is different, it simply doesn’t post on the very small area of Three Sisters. This is a style of gardening and complimentary food use I’ll continue to write about and would like to see my posts go into that area.
Thanks for looking into my problem.

Sorry, I completely misunderstood your question. There are two different things happening here:

    1. If you click on one of the categories in the side bar of your blog, you’ll get taken to other posts on your blog that use that same category. This is what I clicked on earlier.

    2. If you click on the one of the links following the post, “Filed under: …| Tagged:…” you will be taken to the WordPress.com Tag Browser page for that category/tag. We users have no control over these browser pages.

(And I haven’t the vaguest idea why the word “flock” should suddenly appear on that page as one of your categories/tags. Anyone?)

Your description of what occurs is on the mark, thanks. The tag/category “flock” only appears when I assign a post tag/category “cooking”. It’s odd because internal to my blog I have several posts listed as cooking yet seemingly WordPrress rejects my use of the category/tag cooking and changes it to flock every time.
As I’ve said before my blog runs smoothly in other ways and fortunately it’s picked up by search engines. I appreciate the convenience of WordPress but would like a solution to this puzzle. Thank you for your comments.

You know, I’d contact staff. It really shouldn’t be changing your categories or tags. It sounds like some sort of bug to me.

Contact support: http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm Pacific time) or using the “support” button in the upper right of your dashboard.

Thank you, I will do that. I wasn’t sure I should bother support, appreciate your encouragement to do so.

You’re welcome, and I think something is fishy with categories changing. Make sure and post back here with what they say.

(The only thing I could think of was maybe Rose was actually using the Flock browser to post her entries and the program was adding a self tag. Waaay too much conspiracy theory.)

(/whisper@options: I understood it was the WordPress.com Tag Browser page she wants those posts to appear on, and for some reason they don’t…)

Jennifer is correct, the internal links in my site work fine, I just can’t post on Cooking or Three Sisters. Furthermore, if I tag a post Cooking it ends up in the category or tag named “flock”. I sent a message to support yesterday morning and will post their reply here when I hear from them. Thanks for all new and future comments.

I had a note this afternoon letting me know that his has been fixed. My most current post is no longer on flock and is on cooking…no details as to how or why but happy to have this settled. Thank you to all who offered suggestions and the referral to support.
