Can't get rid of meta widget on posts page

I want just the search widget on all pages. I accidentally added the meta widget at one point. I dragged it out of widgets; then I wrote specific instructions for the search widget by page (somewhere I read I had to do that to kill the deleted widget). That worked on all pages except Posts. I cannot get any sidebar change to take on that page. Closing in on frustration threshhold. Should I delete the page and re-add it?

I think I figured it out. I had to select “Posts Page” instead of just the page title “Posts” (page title worked for all other pages). Go figure. This platform is like a black box to me. Try anything until something works!

It sounds like you had a conditional widget display issue. You discovered that widgets now have “visibility” settings so we can select which pages they display on. See here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibility
