can't get rid of the header

I chose the twenty twelve theme and set up a header picture (girl with tiger cub) then changed to static format. I tried to delete the header but it remains. I even tried to replace it with another pic (of flowers) but it remains.
All I really want is a bit of text on the home page with a picture to the right of it like the twenty twelve example. Confused!The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

To remove the header image you uploaded before: go to Appearance > Header, click the “Remove Header Image” button, then click the “Save Changes” button.
To get a home page that looks like the http://twentytwelvedemo.wordpress.com/ demo site, open your static front page for editing, then find the Page Attributes module (it’s usually on the right below the publish module) and set the Template option to “Front Page Template” then setup a featured image.
