Can’t get RSS Feed into new blog
-
I’m new to wordpress and am having trouble getting my fancy RSS Feed icon on my site: http://adamcopeland.wordpress.com
I followed the directions from the FAQ and nothing pops up at all when I publish my blog.
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar?I tested the text widget and it works fine, I must just not be inserting the correct info. I’ve been putting the following into either the title part or the main part of the widget to no avail.
I type it out every time rather than copying and pasting.
I know I’m dense, but please help. -
Has the image been uploaded to wordpress? Here’s a link to an FAQ on writing links: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/how-to-write-links/
And a couple things about uploading images:
(1) Be sure your image is one of these file types – jpg, jpeg, png, gif (Note that bmp’s cannot be uploaded due to size).
(2) Do not use anything in the file name except letters and numbers. Use no spaces, no dashes, no underscores, or any type of special character or punctuation, except for the dot between the file name and the extension. Also make sure that the file name has an extension. -
Thanks. I’m working on it and will get back to you. This is certainly progress. Many thanks.

adamcopeland: the code only works if you put it like this –
<img src="http://faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/a64.png" alt="1" />the alt tag in the image tag seems to make a difference.

Ok, I hit a brick road pretty quickly. I’m finding my problem is I don’t understand a lick of html.
I can’t even get the orange rss image to show in the text widget let alone get the rss to do its thing.
Problems (in order):
1) When uploading the rss image I can only get it in a pixelated large form.
2) Then I can figure out the code to get even the pixelated image to show up in the text widget.Oh, I’m a failure.

Ah, major progress. Thanks, sulz. So I’ve got the image now. Now on to the rss problem again.

Ok, here’s where I am.
I have the image set, I think. But I get a 404 page when I click on what I tried to set up as the RSS link.
Probably a code issue? This is what I’m using (if it will paste):
<img src=”http://adamcopeland.wordpress.com/files/2007/11/rsi.png” alt=”1″ />
I’m dedicated to making this work, darn it.

<a href="http://adamcopeland.wordpress.com/feed"><img src="http://adamcopeland.wordpress.com/files/2007/11/rsi.png" alt="1" /></a>does this work?

@adamjcopeland
To post code in the forum, put it between backticks (to the left of the #1 key on the US keyboard). I think it may be stripping out the<a and </a> -

You are welcome and happy blogging. As a suggestion, I keep a text file that I put html information into so that if I forget I can just open the text file.

A good piece of advice. I was using stickies–on my computer at least–but I’ll open a text file right now. Thanks again.
