Can't get the demo home page result of AltoFocus
-
Hello,
I’m trying to get exactly the homepage format shown in the AltoFocus demo, unsuccessfully.
Following the steps explained on a previous post thread (“Front page features – how to get it like the demo” / post closed on Jan13), I have:
1. created a “Homepage” page
2. created a second page as ‘Blog page’
3. customized the homepage as ‘static page’ and selected it from the dropbox’
4. selected the Blog page as ‘Post page’
If steps so far are correct, I can’t find now where I have to select the featured pages I’d like to show in hp.
Other question: do I have to set a tree structure (level 1, 2 ecc) with the page features?
Thanks for supportingThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi domus65,
You’d need to set the featured images individually.
Here’s how:
- Go to the Site Pages and click the page to edit.
- On the Page Settings (right-hand side), you’ll find an option to “Set Featured Image.”
- Set the featured image and click the “Update” button to save the changes.
You should now see the changes reflected on that homepage.
And, there’s no need to set the tree structure.
Let me know if that worked.

Hello there, besides the information on the AltoFocus theme showcase page https://wordpress.com/theme/altofocus under “Featured Content” where it specifically mentions Posts, you might find this earlier forum discussion on setting up the Altofocus theme’s Featured Posts helpful for you as well, https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/altofocus-demo-how-to-get-landscape-images-to-span-columns?replies=26
As your site is marked Private, I’ve also gone ahead and tagged this for Staff assistance as Staff can see all WordPressdotcom sites, even Private ones. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Hi domus65,
The AltoFocus theme demo site displays the latest posts on your homepage. However, your site looks different because you have chosen to display a static page instead.
These steps will guide you through the process of displaying posts on your homepage:
- Go to My Sites > Customise > Homepage Settings
- Then change ‘Your homepage displays’ to ‘Your latest posts’
- Click Publish
AltoFocus displays the featured images attached to each post, so you’ll want to make sure they have been added. If not, your site won’t match the demo.
Let me know if that does what you are looking for :)

Hi Theakshaydhiman,
thanks for you suggestion, but I had already set up the featured images on each post. No way to get them displayed.Hi Gemmacevans,
thanks to you as well for your reply. I did a previous attempt the way you suggested and despite the images were loaded, I got the grid but couldn’t visualize the images. I have reversed the site setting in this way, so that you can have a look at it.Hi Jennifer,
thanks for the reference to the previous forum thread. Based on that, I have also tagged each single post, but the result is always the same: post grid displayed but no image visualized for each of them. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for further helping -
Hello again @domus65, if you’ve reverted your site to having blog posts appear on the front page, and you’ve added a featured image (1200 pixels wide at least) to each of your blog posts, and followed the instructions on the theme’s showcase page for the front page of your site :
To set up the Featured Content area:
- Navigate to Customize → Featured Content.
- Enter the name of a tag.
- Make sure the “Display tag content in all listings” box is ticked.
- Click the blue “Save” button at the bottom.
- Create at least a few posts and assign the tag you declared under Customize → Featured Content.
you should keep the number of featured posts with a landscape-oriented image to a minimum. The effect on the demo site’s front page is achieved because there are only a few featured posts/images among the regular ones.
But it sounds like you are describing something different; that none of the featured images are displaying on your site’s front page. Is that correct?
Staff-perhaps I’m misunderstanding, but in Point 5 of those instructions in the theme showcase it also mention Pages, but tags cannot be assigned to Pages?

Hi domus65,
I did a previous attempt the way you suggested and despite the images were loaded, I got the grid but couldn’t visualize the images.
The setting that displays the featured images on your homepage is currently unchecked, so that needs to be changed:
1. Go to My Sites > Customise > Content Options
2. Go down to ‘Featured Images’
3. Check the option to ‘Display on blog and archives’
4. Click PublishDoes that do the trick?

Thanks @gemmacevans. Is it just me or does this particular theme have a lot of moving parts that somehow we users are having difficulty putting together? :)
(Also, can you reply regarding the Pages that I mentioned earlier? Thanks.)
-
Hi justjennifer,
You’re right, there are quite a few moving parts :)
in Point 5 of those instructions in the theme showcase it also mention Pages, but tags cannot be assigned to Pages?
Sorry I missed your question. A small number of themes support tags on pages, so they can be included in the Featured Content area:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/featured-content-with-pages
AltoFocus is one of those themes but this option isn’t available on the majority of themes.
