Can't get WordPress to work like it does on the tutorial for HostGator

  It seems to us that the version of WP that we have installed on our computer doesn’t function the same as it does on HostGator which is the Tutorial we are watching to develop our website. We already have a Domain name and have bought the $48 plan for WP. Can we uninstall WP and work through HostGator? or can we cancel our WP plan and take one out for HostGator? Is is possible to have someone from WP call me?
