Can’t import old WP.com blog
-
I need to make a new home for an old blog. I successfully imported one WP blog to another only a few months ago – just before the latest big change. But no luck now.
Now it tells me I need to upload a WXR file, and no amount of Googling will clear up the confusion surrounding this. Do I need to export the old blog to Blogspot, then import it back to WP…??

Oops, sorry. I answered my own question. For the record:
First…go to the Tools menu on the blog that you wish to copy, and click export. Save the file to your HDD.
Then from the Tools menu on your new blog, click Import follow the directions.
All’s well. :-)

You need to export the old wp.com blog by going to tools > export in the dashboard, and then import the XML file that is downloaded to our computer into the new blog by going to tools > import and following the directions there.
If you want the links also, you will have to import them separately by going to links > import and then entering the URL for the old blog which will look something like this: http://blogname.wordpress.com/wp-links-opml.php
