cant install wordpress into directory

    trying to use one click install on dream host to install woprdpress.
    i get an email that says it could not install because the directory is not empty.
    im a noob.
    the directory i want to use is my domain (the .com)
    on the directory is a forum that shows up as .com/forum
    i dont want to lose the forum info because its already active
    how do i get wordpress installed so that its address on the web is mydomain.com rather than mydomain.com/blog?

    hopefully this made sense to somebody.
