can't like others
-
I’ve had a problem recently sending likes to other blogs. I use the chrome browser, and a window opens when I try to like a post, and closes before I can read what’s in the window, and then the like doesn’t show. I am using a chrome browser. wordpress seems to recognize me. It recognizes me when I comment. But not when I like. I do not show likes on my own blog. I’m an old man, and I catch on slowly. Thank you for any help. Shimon
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

@shimonzeevi we’ll need to try to figure out whether it’s an issue with the site, your account, or your browser.
Can you try a different browser first to see if that makes any difference?
Can you also try liking a post on another site?
Also, are you clicking the like button from the site itself, or are you using the reader?
-
I tried the Microsoft Edge, and a window opened asking me to log in. This I did, and then I was able to comment and like. I now think that the window that keeps trying to open in Chrome is a similar window, but I don’t understand why, since I am still able to comment. In any case, it closes right away, and so I can’t log in. The problem of liking is the same on all blogs on wordpress. I am not active on any other site (such as facebook… I am not a member). The problem is only when I try to click the like button on the site. When I click on the email notice I get for blogs I follow, I am able to send a like. But I do enjoy the independence of checking out certain blogs I remember. With the reader, I am able to send a like, but I am unable to enter a protected blog where I know I am welcome. Thank you for your help.

@shimonzeevi are you logged in in chrome?
Do you have any extensions enabled that could be interfering, such as an ad-blocker?

@shimonzeevi can you try disabling your other extensions as well, temporarily?
Another thing you could try: use an incognito window to see if you have the same issue there. Many extensions won’t work in an incognito window.
-
I tried that just now after stopping the ad-blocker didn’t work. On the incognito window I was able to see that window that opened up and then closed before I could read it on my normal browser. It asked me to log in, and I inserted my mail address and password, but then it still didn’t work.

@shimonzeevi could you maybe get a screenshot of this?
Also, it’s asking you to logged in: are you not already logged in?

If you could make a screenshot or screencast and upload that to a service like cloudup.com, that would help. Just update us here with a link.
-
You can use http://cloudup.com to share screenshots and link to them here. If you use the WordPress.com guide for screenshots http://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/ you can and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

Thanks @timethief.
@shimonzeevi as an alternative to sending a screencast, with your permission we could try to log in as you and “like” a post from Chrome here. It may not reproduce the issue, but if it does we would have more helpful data.
As another test, please try liking a post from the WordPress.com reader. Can you like posts there?
Lastly, I wonder whether you may have third party cookies disabled. There’s a test here:

Dear supernovia, Thanks so much for your help, your time and your effort, with my problem. I’m an old man, and was already old when I first started out blogging. I do try to keep up with things, but I have never used a cloud, and when I got that suggestion, I knew what a screen shot was, but had never heard of a screencast, and really didn’t feel I had the energy to try. I didn’t answer right away, because I thought I’d sleep on it. But it seemed to me best that I give up on this issue, and just use explorer when visiting blogs even though I’ve felt most comfortable with chrome for the last few years. Then, this morning I got your last message about the 3rd party cookies, and decided to look into it. It worked! I was immediately able to send ‘likes’ as soon as I allowed those 3rd party cookies. What a relief. I’d like to thank you too, timethief. It is so gracious of the both of you to give your time and expertise to help others who don’t understand enough to help themselves. The problem was quite frustrating for me, but after having the problem solved, I’m glad it all happened, if just because I personally experienced such kindness and generosity.

Ah thanks, @shimonzeevi.

I’m so glad that did the trick! As long as your browser is up to date, you should be able to use whichever one you like. Glad we were able to get Chrome working for you again!
