can't like posts
-
I’m logged in and I don’t see a like button beneath any post or page. I only get the like button if I search based on tags in the reader and find the specific post in the scrolling feed (which can be difficult pending how old the post is). I’d like to be able to like off the blog page where I find the post. After searching, I should be able to do this. I’m doubtful all the pages I have been to have them disabled. I also can’t like from my WordPress bar as the documentation indicates. Is there a fix or reason as to why I can’t like posts? In most cases I have to follow the blog or just forget it if I want to find that again.
Thanks for your time.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support forums. Read the differences here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Provided you are referring to WordPress.COM blogs and not to WordPress.ORG installs, you ought to be able to click the like buttons below posts, unless you have a browser related issue or a connectivity issue.
In order to help you we need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050

Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. -
Thank you very much, Timethief. It was this:
“Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily”.
Apparently the like buttons are seen as ads. Since the rest of WordPress functioned completely, I would have never suspected that.

In a similar vein: I think WordPress should FIX the Like button, so that anyone can LIke a post/page etc. (Right now the like button can only be used by others who have WordPress.com accounts.)
Not only do us bloggers miss out on likes, but we get complaints from frustrated readers who may decide not to follow.
Thanks, CM
