Can’t Link my hosting

  • Unknown's avatar

First of all i’m really new to this process so please bare with me :)

here is what i’ve done so far

-I bought a domain name from godaddy and then i mapped the domain with wordpress
-i assigned my domain to the hosting plan
-I bought a windows hosting plan to host wordpress on it
-then i’ve requested from godaddy to install wordpress into the root folder “Done”

Now i feel like the hosting plan is not linked to my domain as i already uploaded a custom theme into the themes folder in my hosting plan and nothing showed up in the appearance section.

I’m sure there is something missing since I’m not an expert so i have everything i guess but i can’t figure it out
please help as i read all the forums but didn’t got any answers.

    Please help.

    Thank you,

When you got the domain name and hosting and installed wordpress at godaddy, you are no longer connected to wordpress.COM in any way. Your new blog stands completely by itself.

If you bought the domain mapping here, what you have done is to map that domain name you bought at godaddy to the old blog that you had here at wordpress.com. You will have to undo that domain mapping and request a refund from wordpress.COM

You will have to go back over to godaddy domain management and point the domain name back at the nameservers that godaddy would have given you in your welcome email from them.

You probably should make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are now using: http://wordpress.org/support/

Once you get the domain DNS records pointed at the right place and get the install completed then you will log in at your new domain and the backend will be quite similar to what you experienced here, but you will find a bunch of wordpress.COM specific features and widgets missing at your self-hosted install. You will have to research and find plugins to fulfill any of those missing needs.
