Can’t link
-
@shoreacres
I have seen the new linking feature popup box using Firefox 3.6.12. I choose not to use it. Can’t you switch to the HTML editor and select the anchor text and then use the link icon there? I can. -
@thesacredpath ~ Duh. I forgot I installed FF the last time I had problems. Just went over and checked things out there and it’s working fine. Thx for the reminder. Ruts are wonderful things but it doesn’t hurt to get out once in a while….
-
@TT ~ Looks like FF is the answer for now. I was using the HTML editor with IE but it wasn’t working consistently. I’ve refreshed my new links in FF multiple times now and they’re fine, so I’m good to go. Many thanks!
-
You’re welcome. Once the problems are sorted I’ll use the new feature. Until then I will use the HTML editor. :)
-
just checked in for the umpteenth time today to try and add links to an important post for tomorrow adn it’s still not working – will try the HTML method suggested above, just need to know if I need to close my link in inverted commas or not?
-
I’m having similar problems with both IE and Firefox. Course, I can’t access the html editor, either…
-
If FF isn’t working, log out of wordpress in FF, clear the cache and cookies, restart FF and then try again. FF should work just fine as this seems related only to IE7 and 8.

@bigpblog
I don’t understand why you choose to suffer when there is an alternative available to you. Staff are working on this problem and will resolve it. In the meanwhile we do not need to gnash teeth and pull out our hair. We can simply download a Firefox 3.6.12 browser and use it. Have you done that?This is what I do using Firefox 3.6.12 I create a post in the Visual editor. Then I switch to the HTML editor. I use my mouse to highlight the anchor text I wish to link to. I click the “Link” icon in the HTML editor and then enter the URL I wish to link to. This works for me. Please try it.

P.S. The member who created a thread can mark it resolved and I assume that’s what happened here. If you wish to create a support ticket with Staff you will have to provide all your details using this link > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

I can’t download FF. It always errors out. So please, don’t think we can all just go merrily on our way. It’s now the 20th, and the issue is still not resolved. Nobody should have put resolved on this issue.

@spiritmeadow
Have you tried creating a link manually using the HTML editor as TSP describes above?
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-link/page/2?replies=53#post-527879Every link has the same structure. Here is an example of what to enter into the HTML editor.

Thanks for the advice, Timethief, but I’m going to stick with IE8 as it works for everything else that I use.
I accept your point about the OP stating that the issue is resolved, and I concede that I was wrong to ‘go off on one’ about that.
But I still stand by my argument that until it works with IE8 – as the previous version did, with no problems whatsoever – then it is not completely resolved.And as regards using the HTML editor etc., we’re not all literate in computer-speak. I could just about cope with the old version and make it do what I needed, but I am not suitably proficient to delve into all the complexities mentioned here and so I’ll wait …
PS Please don’t take this personally!

@bifpblog
I don’t take any emotional outpourings seriously. You can manually create links in the interim https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/cant-link/page/2?replies=55#post-528262
You can also file a support ticket with Staff http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ -

Woo-Hoo! Now works in IE8!
Many thanks to all concerned, and my best wishes to Timethief for the patience! :) -
Just in case you are all still working on it, mine gives me a bunch of different errors everytime. Sometimes, it inserts the link to the whole post, not just my selection. I can’t edit them back tho. Sometimes, it won’t work at all.
