can’t log in from main page

Hi all, I’m using internet explorer 8 and a few weeks ago I reported that the main page was slow. I just tried it today and it is still slow. I’m not talking about the forums here, i’m talking about http://www.wordpress.com
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Log out, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and try again. The main page loads just fine for me. It’s slower than it used to be, but there are all those images and such now.

I just tried that, and it is stil unacceptably slow. It was a good 20 seconds or more from the time I pressed tab to the time the screen reader said username, and it took a second to react when I pressed the up and down arrows.

Hmm, why hasn’t staff done anything about it? Oddly, the only page I am having problems with is the wordpress.com home page, I am not having any problems with the dashboard or this forum. I had one problem a few weeks ago, but none since.

According to pingdom.com, the wordpress.com main page loads in 2.5 seconds, so it isn’t an issue with the actual site.
For me personally, the main wordpress.COM page loads in just over 9 seconds and I’m on a slower wireless internet connection.

Have you tried querying your site or my site to see if it is a lot faster or pretty close to the same?

I just checked my blog here and it took 2.4 seconds to load at pingdom.com. I retested the wordpress main page right after and it took 2.8 seconds. My self-hosted blog took 8.7 seconds.

And all that is consistent with my loading them directly in my browser after clearing my browser cache (takes longer, but the ratios are about the same).
