Can't log in to Gravatar with my new WP-account info

I’m writing here and hope that maybe one of you can help me. I recently set up a second wordpress account with a new email adress. I then wanted to connect a Gravatar to this new email adress, but Gravatar says that my email and password are incorrect (I’ve tried it so many times, it is the correct one and the same that I can log in to WordPress with).

The old email and old password is the only one that works to log in to Gravatar. Why is this? I know that I can change email while logged in to Gravatar on my old email, but I’d prefer the password I have connected to my new email.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

    Hi there,

Your WordPress.com and Gravatar accounts are essentially the same thing, and if you’re logged into this WordPress.com account it will automatically log you into the same account if you go to Gravatar.

To log into a different Gravatar account you’ll need to log out of this account completely, and clear your browser cookies to make sure. Then try logging into the new account with the different email and password.

Please let me know if you need any more help with this.

Hi, thanks for your reply! Unfortunately it still doesn’t work…

I tried erasing all history including cookies, logged in to wordpress again to check that it works, tried logging on to Gravatar, but still get the message that my email or password are invalid. I even tried in a private window with the same result. It seems as though my new WP-info is not at all valid with Gravatar for some reason.

    Anything else I can try?

Are you sure you created a completely new account? Gravatar allows you to add any number of emails to an existing account, with a different image for each email. But it’s still just one account.

If you created a new account you will also have created a new username. Can you give that to me? Also please post the email address you used for the new account. It won’t be visible to visitors to the forum but I’ll be able to see it.

An even better option, if you can log into WordPress.com with the new account, please do so and post here while logged into that account. Then I will instantly have all the info I need to investigate further.

Hi! After your reply I tried to log into WordPress and it seems I only created a new WP blog user, not a new account. So now I changed my old user name and password (from josefinevahlberg to josefinelindenberger). When I did I also checked the “create matching blog address”. However, now it displays I’m a new WP-user (member since June 29 2016). Also, now I can log into Gravatar (as it is still the old account, just with updated information) but now instead it seems I can’t add a new email adress. Not sure if has anything to do with the fact I chose to create a matching blog address?

My old account details were josefinevahlberg, with the email (email visible only to moderators and staff) and my new account details are josefinelindenberger, and I would like to add (email visible only to moderators and staff) to my Gravatar, but I just get an error message when I try this.

Ok now I reloaded the page and it seems to suddenly have updated the email by itself. So now my only question is why it says I’m a new member even though I changed details on an existing account?

it seems I only created a new WP blog user, not a new account

Those are the same thing. A WordPress.com username and a Gravatar account are exactly the same.

why it says I’m a new member even though I changed details on an existing account?

A new username is considered to be a new account, even if you changed from an existing account that was years old. As I said, the username and the account are the same thing. That’s just how our system works.

Unless you want to do something like add secondary email addresses with their own gravatar images that you can use on other services, I suggest you make any changes to your account on the WordPress.com profile and account settings pages. They really work much more easily than the Gravatar site itself.

Those are the same thing. A WordPress.com username and a Gravatar account are exactly the same.

How is it then explained that I could log into my blog account but not to WordPress nor Gravatar? The Url to the page I refer to when I write “blog account” is https://www.theinformationcompany.se/wp-login.php?loggedout=true.

    Thank you for your help!

https://www.theinformationcompany.se/ is a self-hosted WordPress.org site, not a WordPress.com site and is not connected to your WordPress.com/Gravatar account in any way.

When you created that site you set a username and password for that site which is only valid for that site. If you install the Jetpack plugin on that site you’ll be able to use your WordPress.com username and password to log in to that site, but not otherwise.
