Can't log in to my site
-
Username shows correctly on my account, but every time I attempt to click on Admin at the Dashboard I’m asked to sign in again and then I’m told it’s an invalid user name. The site in question is http://revolutionarygutters.com. User name is my email address, (email visible only to moderators and staff). Will provide password if you need. Enlighten please! :)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You are using the self-hosted version of WordPress, available at WordPress.org. This forum is for the hosted version of WordPress available at WordPress.com.
You may want to direct your query to the WordPress.org support forum, where the awesome volunteers out there will help resolve your issue ASAP. :)
Happy blogging!

I’m sorry to bother you again, but Revolutionary’s site is not self-hosted. The domain purchased is definitely a “.com” domain, but I have no intention of self-hosting this site. Is it listed somewhere as self-hosted? I’m confused.

Hi @sherreya,
I believe you’re the one who runs revolutionarygutters.com.
I’ll clear the air for you. WordPress is essentially a personal publishing platform and there are two ways to use it. One way is to download the software available at WordPress.org, and install it in a web server, with a domain pointing to it. This is the version of WordPress that you’re using is the self hosted version.
The other way (which is the easier way) is to use the hosted version of WordPress, available at WordPress.com – where you can create a blog for free, and without hassles. :) This forum is for WordPress.com users. :)
This link should explain the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/However, as I can see – the error you are facing is because you are probably confused between both versions (i.e. you are trying to log in to WordPress.com with your self-hosted blog credentials).
So, to log in to your blog dashboard, I’d suggest you to visit this link:
http://revolutionarygutters.com/wp-adminTry logging in using the credentials, and I’m sure you’ll be able to log in to your account.
Happy blogging! :)

Hari, I do understand the difference in WordPress.com and WordPress.org. I currently have Revolutionary set up under a free plan on WordPress.com. I run two sites of my own, http://sherreymeyer.com (self-hosted) and http://puddletownreviews.com (free plan). That much I understand.
Using the link you provided, I attempted to sign into Revolutionary and received an “invalid username” message. Thinking perhaps I’d made an error somewhere, I tried a couple more times, and then got locked out.
Any suggestions?

Hi again,
I’m sorry, but there seems to be a mix up. When I checked, I could find that revolutionarygutters.com runs the self hosted version of WordPress (and was purchased from Bluehost as well). You can see the whois information (including the registrant details) here:
http://whois.domaintools.com/revolutionaryfutters.comI checked the other domains too – they too are on self-hosted WordPress with the same host – BlueHost. Can you please check again and confirm this?
About the error you are facing, as I can see, the revolutionary site has a lockdown plugin installed – so probably you are locked out of it as well… You may want to try resetting it through the forgot password method (There’s a lost password link at the bottom of your login page).

I’m sorry, the whois link I shared earlier (to verify the details of revolutionarygutters) was malformed. Here’s the correct link to the same:
-
revolutionarygutters.com from the source code:
meta name=”generator” content=”WordPress 4.3.1″
meaning that the above site/domain is using the standalone WP software and is not hosted on WordPressdotcom.
-
We are not self-hosted. The only item purchased relative to Revolutionary from BlueHost is the domain name, correctly listed with whois. I checked the link you provided and everything there is correct. Currently, the WordPress account shows no charges to Revolutionary for anything, as we have selected the free package using our chosen domain purchased and paid for at BlueHost.
I don’t know how or why the source code shows Revolutionary using the standalone WP software. It has never been downloaded to either of the two computers in our home during the time I’ve had personal as well as business accounts with WordPress.
Also, as far as the lockdown plugin, I’ve not installed any plugins to Revolutionary since a free site isn’t able to use plugins.
I think I have the solution: What happens if I delete the account we have now (how do I do that?) and start all over again from a blank slate? Somehow something has gotten very mixed up, and self-hosted is not the way we want to go. Can you help me do this?
And I appreciate the time and effort you are extending!
-
Hari, I owe you an apology. We’ve been through more discussions on this new business than you would believe, and especially with the hosting and site. I completely forgot, until checking our account with BlueHost, that we did purchase site hosting from them and had them upload Revolutionary. Because this may be a short-term and turnaround endeavour, we wanted to have the best appearance and a good site for any potential purchasers.
I’ll go ask my question about logging in over at WordPress.org support, as you suggested earlier. So sorry to have taken up much of your Saturday.
Best, Sherrey

Hello Sherrey,
Happy to have been of help. :)
The login issue is a minor one – and I’m sure you’ll able to get it corrected in no time.
