Can't log on to site as administrator

  • Unknown's avatar

Can anyone help me on this? I am an administrator of an existing WordPress site. I hadn’t been on it in a while and thought I knew the password but the system wouldn’t let me on. So I changed the password, but it still won’t let me on to edit anything, sending me a message that I have to get permission from the administrator. But I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR. how do I get out of this mess?

    thanks, Ted G.

  • Hi Ted,

Can you tell us the URL of the site? Then we’ll be able to point you in the right direction to get help with this.

    Yes — crimjj.wordpress.com

    thanks for any advice. TG

  • Hello Ted,

Ok, I can’t see this site connected to this account – is it possible you have access to multiple WordPress.com accounts?

    Many thanks.

This is the only connection I have to WordPress — no other accounts. All I am asking is how I re-gain access as an administrator, which I have had in the past. When I attempted to do this yesterday (via “log in” on the site) the response was that the password I had used before didn’t work, so I created a new one.
Then when I used the new password, it said I have to contact the administrator to get access. That doesn’t seem to make sense. Another way to ask this question is: how does one determine who the administrator is for this site? My son originally set it up, so maybe it’s him. (David Gest). thanks again.

  • Hi there,

crimjj.wordpress.com is owned by a different account than the one you’re currently logged in to. To be able to access that site you need to log in to that other account of yours or your son’s.

If you cannot access that other account, please follow our Account Recovery guide:
