Can’t log on to WordPress.com blog
-
I had a WordPress.com site (mymadang.wordpress.com) which I no longer use. I find that I can’t log onto it now using any of the user names or passwords that formerly worked. When I go to WordPress.com and log on I note that my new blog site http://www.messsersmith.name/wordpress is listed as my blog.
Is there anybody out there who can tell me how I can get back on my old WordPress.com site. I want to just delete it. It is still getting hits and comments and I want to get rid of it so that my new site will replace it.

I use this URL to login:
http://www.mymadang.wordpress.com/wp-login.php
It comes back with:
http://www.messersmith.name/wordpresswp-admin/
(which is a nonsense URL)
The error is:
404 Not Found
The requested URL /wordpresswp-admin/ does not exist.
Well DUH, of course it doesn’t!I think that this has been caused because I associated my new self-hosted blog (www.messersmith.name/wordpress) with my old WordPress.com account, but I’m just guessing.
My problem is that I’d like to either kill the site altogether or make it private because it’s stealing hits and collecting comments. However, if I can’t log on to the dashboard, I can’t do anything at all.
Thanks,
Jan Messersmith -

It comes back with:
404 Not Found
The requested URL /wordpresswp-admin/ does not exist.A bogus URL, same as before. Something is very strange here.
-
You’ve probably tried this, but I see you’re using the meta widget. Have you tried logging in or accessing the admin panel from there?
-
Also, you you tried clearing your browser cache and cookies, restarting your browser and then trying again?
-
I had not tried that.
When I do it, it is strange that is shows me as LOGGED ON. The Meta widget displays “Log Out”
When I try the Site Admin it comes back with:
404 Not Found
The requested URL /wordpresswp-admin/ does not exist. The same bogus URL as before. I don’t get what’s happening here.

I tried clearing everything. Nothing helps.
I do notice that very briefly on the status line of the browser at the bottom it shows “waiting for http://www.messersmith.name” which it should clearly NOT be waiting for.
I believe that this all goes back to trying to move my blog from a self-hosted site, which got hacked, then moved to a WordPress.com site, which I hated, because I couldn’t do the things I wanted to do, and then to another self-hosted site with the same URL as the original, but on a different server. What I think has happened is that all my changes (and attempts to get an API) have blasted WordPress.com with more than it can figure out. That’s why I’m getting the weird URLs and it’s looking where it shouldn’t be looking. The fact that I stupidly associated my messersmith.name/wordpress site with my WordPress.com account is probably when it all went sour. Now, when I try to log on to my ACTUAL WordPress.com site (mymadang.wordpress.com) it get all confused.
HEY! THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE EASY!
What I’d LIKE to do at this point is find out who I can contact to simply have my old WordPress.com blog deleted. I can’t see how that could affect my new site, which is self-hosted.
Any ideas?

I just sent a message to the http://support.wordpress.com/contact/ URL. I’m going to bet that I get an automated reply saying that they won’t talk to me. The reason? The only choice that I had where it asks for URL is http://www.messersmith.name/wordpress, which is not a WP.COM site.
I’ve had this happen to me before – even when, as now, I’m asking a question about a WP.COM site.
I wish I had never associated my WP.ORG site with WP.COM.

They do not send out automated responses.
Relax and then will get back to you.
I’ve also modlook tagged this thread, so if they come through the forums they will be alerted to it.
-
Well, I haven’t a clue what a modlook tag is, but I sincerely hope that I don’t find one hanging from some part of my body.
So, I’ll go home early, have a beer and a cigar, and come back to see if the spirits are communicating.
Thanks, thesacredpath and the others who piped in.

To login to the mymadang.wordpress.com username you’ll need to use the ‘mymadang’ username, it looks like you have two different user accounts. I’ll hunt out your support ticket. Thanks so much for your patience!
