Can’t login

I have a domain that is being hosted by hostgator. I am trying to login through WP but it will not accept the admin credentials hostgator gave me. Do I have to access through hostgator?

Hi there,
You are posting in the support forums for WordPress.com, a hosting provider like Hostgator. We have absolutely no connection to the site you have hosted with them – that site was made using the open source WordPress software, which is not the same thing as WordPress.com.
Are you trying to log into WP-Admin on your site? The login credentials for that admin account is stored in your site’s database on your hosting provider’s servers. You can’t use those credentials to log into WordPress.com, and you can’t use your WordPress.com account username to log into the admin account for your site.
If the credentials you have aren’t working, you can see the password reset instructions for your version of WordPress at https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
For more help with this, please ask the WordPress.org community for advice at https://wordpress.org/support/forums, or contact your hosting provider directly instead. Note that a WordPress.org account is again something completely different from either your WordPress.com or your site’s admin user account, and you’ll need to register an account on WordPress.org before you can post in those forums.
