Can't login to my account

I recently changed the server for my website from WordPress to 1and1.com. I had been using 1and1 for years as my ftp and email provider. The problem came when I decided to have a website built for me. It was then that I became acquainted with WordPress. The web designer I used to do my site worked strictly in WordPress, and suggested that I use their server. So, this I did at his advice. He was charging me a fee for his “webmaster” services, and, apparently (I surmise now) that part of his fees were used towards WordPress’s yearly fees. I’ve never had any relationship with WordPress. My web designer set up the WordPress account and gave me the login and password so I could edit it myself. I decided to let him go after the first year because I was getting very little for my money from him. I decided to take the site to my ol’ tried and true 1and1.com. When I called 1and1 to tell them that I was coming to them for my website (ftp), I was told that it was a simple matter. We changed the DNS, pointing it to 1and1, and I thought it was a done deal. However, my site went off-line recently, and my suspicion is that it has to do with my WordPress account being closed. I am wondering if I have to keep a WordPress account active in order to use the site’s files that I had built for me (with WordPress). I feel like a rube not thinking about this earlier, but worrying about it isn’t going to help me now – it’s not the first or the last time I’ll feel rubesque.
So, (and thanks for bearing with me this far) what I need now is to find out how to use the files that were created on WordPress with 1and1, new server provider. I uploaded all of the files to my 1and1 ftp, but my website is not online. I don’t know what to do from here except call 1and1 again to see if they can advise me.
But before I do this, I was hoping I could get some advice from a consultant or staff member at WordPress regarding this dilemma. I can’t log in to my old account, probably because it’s been closed due to non-payment.
I’m hoping against hope that I am not going to have to keep a WordPress account open to be able to use the files (that I paid dearly for). But if I do, which I am prepared for, how do I create a new account using the previous, closed account’s files?
I’m beggin’ for some help. Anybody?

Thanks for the reply. I know a little more about the issue than I did when I wrote the post above, so allow me to bring you up to date.To answer your question, no, this is not the account I am referring to. I created the blog site, “rickpenderstudio” with WordPress only yesterday – when I was at WordPress.com, trying to figure out what went wrong with my website, rickpender.com. Having a blog page seemed like a fun thing to do, and easy to set up, so I went for it. Anyway, I hope the blog creation did not add another level of confusion about it all – both for me and for you. But fyi: I saw somewhere, not sure where, as I was working through this, that the user name, “rickpender.com”, is still intact at WordPress. The problem is, my user name and password for rickpender.com Dashboard admin no longer work.
Since my previous post, I’ve called my server provider, 1and1.com. I explained the issue to the tech help person. I explained my suspicion about the problem being related to my WordPress account “being closed”. She explained how this works. This will seem obvious to you, but bear with me. Since I am not using WordPress as my server, and usage of the software itself is free, there really is no “account” per se, in the usual sense, so there is nothing to close. The question still remains, why did the Dashboard admin username and password quit working. This is a very curious mystery, and one I hope you might be able to shed light on.
Regarding my website going off line, the 1and1 tech looked at my webspace account data, DNS, Database, Destination, etc., and saw no reason why the site is not working. She suggested that the files, or possibly the WordPress software itself, could have become corrupted. Her advice at that point was to re-install WordPress.
She walked me through the download, but when we were nearly done, of all things, we had a connection problem with the last page of the set up. We could not complete the process at that point. (What luck.) She said it would be fixed in a half-hour, and that I should log out, and come back to the1and1.com website later, repeating the steps she’d showed me to re-download and re-install WordPress. This I did, and I got it installed, no problems.
Again, pardon my ineptness regarding internet-workings as they relate to WordPress, but during the WordPress installation process, I was instructed to create a new database on my FTP. But since I didn’t finish the process with the 1and1 tech person earlier, due to the connection error, I did not receive instructions as to what to do once WordPress was reinstalled. Common sense tells me that I have to get the website files from my old database into the new database, right? Forgive me, but I am still learning, and this ordeal has taught me a lot.
If my thinking is correct here, regarding moving/copying my website files to the new database I created, how would this be done most efficiently? And is there anything I need to know of a technical nature regarding this procedure?
You are kind to take the time to read my long explanation of things. I hope you have some advice for me.

According to the whois search I just did rickpender.com is not hosted by WordPress.com, so we won’t be able to help you here. These are the support forums for sites hosted by WordPress.com.
WordPress and WordPress.com are two entirely different entities. You can read this Support doc for more clarity: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Please again request assistance from your website hosting service, 1and1, and head over to http://wordpress.org/support/ for general help with installation and assistance with the standalone WordPress software.
