Can't login to self-hosted site after Gravatar password change

    Hello,

I’ve been using Gravatar for years and enjoy how it provides consistent branding across WP.com and WP.org properties. Two days ago I successfully changed my Gravatar password. But, when I tried to login to my self-hosted WordPress site, it was not accepting my new Gravatar credentials.

I have been able to login to all my self-hosted WordPress sites for many years, since WP 2.5+, with no issues. I understand that it can take an hour or so to take effect, but it has been two days.

I have researched the issue (Google) and all I can seem to find is stuff like “Can’t log in to Gravatar with my new WP-account info”. NO-That’s the OPPOSITE of what my issue is.

Also, the answer given on this post doesn’t seem to be applicable either. It says, in part,

“http://john.methodistconnexions.com/ is NOT a free hosted WordPress.COM blog and we do not provide support for it here. You are posting to the wrong support forum.”

How can I know if it is an issue with WordPress.com or with my self-hosted site? I believe the most logical conclusion is that since changing my Gravatar password is the LAST thing I did before things broke, that the issue most likely likes with WordPress.com. Also, can still login with the previous password.

Or, perhaps I’m looking at this wrong and WordPress.com has removed the ability to login to self-hosted sites with gravatar credentials?

Finally, yes, I have cleared my browser cache for all time several times and tried various browsers and same result in all.

This is the site in question: https://erichepperle.com/

I look forward to any help you can offer.

Your self-hosted WordPress site’s login credentials are totally different and separate from your Gravatar/WordPress.com login credentials.

You may may have used the same password for both sites in the past, but these are two separate passwords and changing one does not change the other.

The JetPack plugin has a feature that, if activated and configured correctly, allows you to login to your self-hosted WordPress site with your WordPress.com credentials. But even then you can still login with your original self-hosted site credentials… because the two are totally separate.

Also, can still log in with the previous password.

That’s because you never changed this password.

You only changed your WordPress.com/Gravatar password… and this is separate from your self-hosted site’s password.

  • Hi there,

To clarify, it is possible to use your WordPress.com credentials to log in to a self-hosted WordPress site, such as the one you have at erichepperle.com.

However, this is not a feature that is built in to WordPress, but requires instead that you add the Jetpack plugin to your site, and have it connected to your WordPress.com account, which is what makes the connection that allows your login here to work there as well.

However, I do not see that the Jetpack plugin is active on your site. It was at one time but is not now. In the event that the Jetpack plugin is inactive, the good news is that as long as you have access to the server control panel through your current host, it is always possible to regain access to your self-hosted WordPress site. This WordPress.org support article will walk you through it: https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/

You can ask your current host support for direct assistance in completing the steps in that article; they would be in the best position to help.

You can also ask for help in the Jetpack forums here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/

Hope that points you in the right direction!
