Can't map my own domain to remove /wordpress from URL

  • Unknown's avatar

I own theagilecouch.com domain, and I still get the /wordpress version of the URL when I land on the page.

I have looked for instructions, but I can’t edit the URL (it’s grayed out), and the mapping either wants me to pay $13 for a service, or says the domain is already mapped to a WordPress site. I don’t know what to do next.

    Any help appreciated.

I believe things are working correctly. If I type in your custom domain I am correctly diverted to the wordpress.com site address. To make your custom domain the primary domain on your currently free site would entail the purchase of a Personal plan or higher.

Thank you @themagicrobot for trying to help. In my personal view of the software world, “working correctly” is defined by the user or customer. Now, it’s possible I’m asking for something that can’t be done, or I have a misconception.

I believe I am already paying for a WordPress plan annually. My goal is for visitors to only see “theagilecouch.com” when they hit my site. I’m still unclear on my path forward to resolve this.

To clarify, I do have a Personal plan.

    You followed these instructions?
    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
If that doesn’t work then with a paid plan you have access to email or Livechat with staff but as it is the weekend you may get a quicker reply here by adding the word modlook to the tag box on the right.

I already had the domain in the area from those instructions. But looking at it now, I see the “change primary” and noticed the wordpress version was set as the primary.

I hit the radio button and changed, and didn’t get an error message. I will check the behavior now and see if that solves the problem.

    — That seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for the help!

Yes it’s working now and diverting in the correct direction.
