Can't migrate followers via My Sites

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m trying to migrate my followers from wordpress.com to .org. I’m trying to follow the instructions on this page: http://jetpack.me/support/subscription-migration-tool/ , but in my “Settings”, I don’t even see the link to “migrate followers”. Can you assist?
I’d like to migrate my followers to thecopenhagentales.com .

    Thanks,
    Laura

    Hi Laura,

Sorry for the trouble! I can go ahead and migrate your followers for you, but before I do I noticed that your WordPress.org site still has a temporary URL listed on this end instead of your domain thecopenhagentales.com.

To update that on this end (and make sure your followers end up in the right place) can you please disconnect Jetpack from your WordPress.com account in the Jetpack section of that site’s dashboard, and then reconnect it? Then I can safely move your followers over.

I also want to mention that after the move, your email followers will continue to receive email updates, and your WordPress.com followers will continue to see your new posts in the Reader. If your WordPress.com followers would like to receive email updates, as well, they can subscribe via email on your new blog.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that! Once you’ve reconnected Jetpack and you’re ready to go, just let me know and I’ll move those followers over. :)

    Hi Rachel,

thanks for your response. I have disconnected and reconnected the accounts via Jetpack – I hope this has worked now!
Do I need to activate site management as well?

    Thanks!

    Hi Laura,

That did the trick! I moved your followers over to your WordPress.org to your self-hosted site at thecopenhagentales.com, so you’re all set with that. :)

You don’t need to activate site management unless you’d like to manage that WordPress.org site from your WordPress.com dashboard — that’s separate from the subscriptions module in Jetpack, which is what sends out email updates to your site’s subscribers.

Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
