Can’t move widgets or edit on edit pages

I’ve tried WordPress 2.8.5 but I’m having a problem moving and editing on the widgets page. Also, I can’t use the post/page edit pages. Can’t switch from text edit to html. It doesn’t work.
I’m using Mac OS 10 Tiger version 10.4.11 and the default browser is Safari. I’ve switched back to WordPress 2.7.1 since this is the only version that everything works on. Can someone help me with this? Thanks.

I have a user who is also experiencing the same problem. His ‘edit post’ text is white on white and he cannot toggle between html and visual. He’s using Firefox.
