Can't Navigate to Pages through Links in Images

    Hello Everyone,

I am not sure I even have to vocabulary to really speak about the issue I am experiencing. This is the best way I can summarize it.

I have customized a theme, set up a homepage, and several additional pages to give a viewer a deep dive of projects I work on.

My homepage has a grid of thumbnail images, that would link to the project specific pages I had set up.

All of my pages are still in tact. I made some changes to the theme and in an instant all of those link stopped working. I can no longer navigate to the project pages by clicking on the images. To add to the problem, my contact page and my about page in my menu do not work either.

Regardless of what link you click on you only get a view of a refreshed homepage. I can see that the URL is showing a change, almost as if it was going to navigate to the next page but it doesn’t.

Finally, I can only surmise that my template has somehow become the default view for all of my pages… Can anyone help me please?

    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Hi @davemwilliams83,

Looking at some of your pages, I see that you’re using the Header and Footer Only template, as shown here:

I suggest changing these back to the default template.

Additionally, the gallery block that currently shows on every page has been added to the Header and Footer Only template, which you can update by going to Appearance → Editor. What I suggest here is to remove the gallery block, and add it back to your homepage instead.

I hope that helps and please reach out again if you have any further questions.

    Metabreakr,

Thank you so much! For the most part your suggestions worked really well.

Most of the linked images started working immediately after changing the template to default. There is only one standout and that is the linocut image. It still will not transition over.

For the other pages I chose the template without title option because I don’t want the page name displayed. There were no issues here except with the linocut page that doesn’t want to change.

Finally, I went into appearances and removed the gallery as you suggested. When I did that it removed the content from the homepage, I made sure the content was in the homepage-page but my web browser only brought up the header across the top of the page.

I went ahead and threw the content back on to the header footer only template and everything with exception of the linocut page was functioning again.

Do you have any idea why the linocut page (image of the illustrated eagle) is a standout and not working?

Thank you so much for your help!

    Dave

  • Hi there,

Most of the linked images started working immediately after changing the template to default. There is only one standout and that is the linocut image. It still will not transition over.

I’m not sure what you mean by “will not transition over” can you clarify? You mean to say that when you click on the image it does NOT take you to the page you linked it to?

I visited your site, and I think a few images in the homepage gallery are linocuts (I’m not a trained artist so I could be wrong) but I found that when I clicked on all images on the homepage, for me they take me to the page you linked.

Were you able to sort this out on your own, or did you need a hand still? If you are still having issues with a specific image please describe the image a bit (so we’re sure we’re checking the right one) so we can take a closer look.

    Jerry,

Your right about “will not transition over,” meaning “it will not take me to the page I linked it too.”

At this point, the error seems to have resolved itself. I went back and checked after you said you were able to successfully see all of the linked pages associated with the images on the homepage.

I believe we are good to go. Thank you for replying and helping me sort this out. I hopefully will get better with this in time!

  • Glad to hear that is working for you too, thanks for confirming!
