"Can't Open the Page" My Website!

  • Unknown's avatar

I recently downloaded the Yoast Plug-in to my WordPress acct. It seems fine for an edit or two, but then, I’m locked out! The exact phrase on my browser window reads:

    Safari Can’t Open the Page
Safari can’t open the page “http://headshots-sandiego.com” because Safari can’t establish a secure link to the server “headshots-sandiego.com”.

I can’t open my webpage from my computer anymore. I am on Mac, running OS 10.13.1. Both Safari and Firefox will not display my website from my wifi.

My wifi is ATT. If I hotspot from my iPhone, my website will open. What is wrong???

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi @mark1312171, can you contact your host? If that isn’t a connection issue, it could be an SSL error maybe. You could also search the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums for help.

When it’s resolved, if you’d like to move your sites to our services, let us know!

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    Hi Supernovia,

I appreciate your response. This happened before a couple of weeks ago. I contacted my host, Network Solutions, and opened a job ticket. The problem cleared up after about 48hrs. I’m not sure it was because of them or something else.

But, as I mentioned, anyone else can load my website. That is, anyone but me on my wifi. I haven’t taken my Mac somewhere else to connect with a different wifi, but I’m guessing it will work. At least it works with my hotspot, but not my wifi!

Does that really sound like its the host, when the problem is only with my computer on my wifi?

Regarding moving my hosting services to you, I’m considering it. However, Network Solutions has been around forever. I have another site with them that they have hosted since 1998!

  • I’d still contact your host. They may be inadvertently blocking you.

Also, to clarify, these forums are mainly for the sites hosted on WordPress.com. I hope that helps.

Opps! I didn’t know that. I’m just a user of your software. I thought this is where I would go to get WordPress Support.

    Hi there,

Hopefully, I can clarify this for you. WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

This is WordPress.COM support and that site is not on our servers. We do not provide support for local installs of WordPress.ORG software, or for WordPress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, linked to WordPress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites WordPress.COM account page.

The wordpress.ORG support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support. The wordpress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.

    Thank you TimeThief!

I’m guessing this isn’t the first time this has had to be explained. I guess that’s why I had to login with Google ;-)

I’ll try seeking help from the appropriate source. I’m sure my dilemma is not unique. There has to be a simple fix since Network Solutions / Web.com host many thousands of WordPress websites, as does GoDaddy and other 3rd party hosts.

    Thanks again,
    Mark

I’ve had the exact same issue on my PC. I’ve contacted the webhost and they don’t see anything blocking my website, I’ve contacted my internet provider and there’s nothing on their end. I don’t know what else to do. When I login to my site/admin it will work for about 10 minutes then tells me “can’t reach this page” please help.

Yeah, sounds virtually the same. Does it clear up on its own in a few days? Mine did, but I’m not sure if my host cleared it or not.

I didn’t have a problem until I installed the Yoast Plugin to WordPress and was changing meta descriptions, etc.

I’ll see where I get on the WordPress.org forum. If no help, I’ll Try Yoast customer service.

  • I used to work for a different host. We had programs that would block connections that would try to detect suspicious activity and block the user’s connection based on their IP for a while. We sometimes had users get blocked accidentally. It would automatically be unblocked after a while too, so long as there hadn’t been repeat “offenses”.

Your host and ISP should be able to help. Good luck :)
