Can't pin photos from my own blog to my Pinterest

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve tried pinning photos from my own blog (http://www.ourmode.ca) to my Pinterest boards two ways:
    1. Using the “Pin It” button that I dragged to my toolbar, which pins photos from the current page you are browsing: http://about.pinterest.com/goodies/

    2. Through Pinterest directly, where you choose to “Add a Pin”, paste the website with the target photos, and then select the photo you would like to pin.

Although these methods have worked with Pinning other photos on the web, it’s not working when I try to pin photos from my own blog. What ends up showing up on my Pinterest board is a blank frame with a question mark in the middle, as if the image URL is broken.

Is this a “block” on WordPress.com itself, that doesn’t allow us to pin WordPress blog photos? Any insight or tips are much appreciated.

  • Hi there, I was able to pin an image from your site fine using the bookmarklet, as you can see here: http://cl.ly/image/0N2w3a0s2C1h

Is this a “block” on WordPress.com itself, that doesn’t allow us to pin WordPress blog photos?

No, there isn’t – in fact we offer a Pinterest button under Sharing > Settings.

To rule out a browser issue, could you please let me know if you’re able to use the bookmarklet either:

    a) another web browser, such as Firefox or Chorme
    b) on another computer

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi

I am having the same issue on a self hosted site that had no issues with pinning until a few days ago. I have changed nothing. I have spoken to the pin it plugin developer, and we hashed about and came up with nothing.

I have written to inquire of Pinterest to see if they know what may have happened. Neither the pin it button, or the book marklet is working properly.

Before, I could post the thumbnails using the WP gallery and then when you clicked to pin, the pin window opened – displaying all of the images you could choose from to pin – and in the largest formats. Now the images aren’t loading.

I did a test post, I loaded the images directly with width and height tags instead of in a gallery – and they don’t display. Oddly, 4 of the 22 images display and one ad and one video (that are widgets)

Before the problem, all of my ads would display in the Pin window – now only 1 does.

    Example page: http://bcr8tive.com/bottega-veneta-fall-winter-2013-14/

IF it is a full sized image – it will open in the pin window.
    As in the post: http://bcr8tive.com/decorating-with-vaulted-ceilings/

Have tried clearing the cache, rebooting, using different browsers, I only use a few plugins, like disabling right click and they are currently deactivated. Cannot find it.

ANY help would be sincerely appreciated.

  • Hi bcr8tive – thanks for chiming in about your problem with Pinterest pins on a self-hosted site.

While this forum supports the free blogs hosted at WordPress.com, WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress at:
    http://wordpress.org/support/
    http://codex.wordpress.org/

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

I’d encourage you to head over to the WordPress.org support forums and ask for help there.

    Best of luck!

    Hi Kathyrn

Sorry if I “chimed in” on the wrong forum but it was the right topic –

I’m looking to solve this problem, since it’s a pretty big one on my site – my visitors use Pinterest a lot – so I’m responding anywhere that I can that there is someone else experiencing the SAME problem.

If someone is able to help katharles – perhaps I will also find a way to solve it.

    Ding.

It happens for me, as well. It’s random. Sometimes it will pin my WP image, and sometimes it won’t. No logic at all.

  • Kelley – could you please start a new thread to describe your issue in detail, and add the word modlook in the Tags sectionso Staff will respond. Thanks.
