Can’t post a link
-
Help! I’m trying to insert a link into my blog. I highlight the word, then I click on the link symbol, but I don’t get the dialog box letting me put in the URL. It says error on page at the bottom. What am I doing wrong?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I get a new link box that looks like it has more bells and whistles than the old one. Except that it doesn’t work. Nothing I try will get it to actually insert a link. Argh. Time sensitive post.

I scanned my computer, and found no virus. This is a WordPress problem not computer problem.

What browser and browser version are you using? Staff is working on an issue with IE7/8 – or at least they were last night when I signed off.

I kind of hoped the IE7/8 link issue would have been solved while I slept, but I guess not.
By chance have you tried switching to the HTML tab and using the “link” button there?
Alternately you can write your links by hand with HTML
<a href="URL">Link text</a> -

Simply switch to the HTML editor, select the anchor text and insert the link. Doing this means you totally avoid using the “new linking feature” that appears in the Visual Editor.
Alternatively you can attempt to learn how the new linking/search feature > http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/11/19/linking-sorting-paging/

Ohhhhhh, kay. Just use the HTML interface instead of the visual one, when in the edit post mode. This does skirt around the new link window’s problem, but I hope it gets solved soon anyway . . .

One other alternative would be to temporarily install Firefox and use that till the issue is resolved. You could then uninstall it or even keep it around just in case.

Of course. You will find Staff saying the same thing I said in one of the others threads with “links” in the title. :D

I am using IE7, don’t want to switch to Firefox. Firefox mess up my work on the computer.

I have never experienced Firefox messing up anything on my computer and I run both Firefox 3.6.12 and IE8 browsers. The choice is before you. Either switch to Firefox and use the HTML editor to enter links or wait until things are rectified.

Staff ie: designsimply states above:
The insert link button is not working properly in IE7/8. We’re working to fix it.
In the mean time, you can either type the link manually using the html editor or use another browser to get around the problem.

So there you have it. I’m using Firefox 3.6.12 and the HTML editor and having zero problems.

Thanks, Timethief, for the workaround by using HTML.
That does work, although I have to add that I’m using the latest Firefox (and Vista) and the new link box does *not* work for me in Visual.

I think this is a cookies/temp. files problem because the new links have been working all day…
