Can't preview themes

I don’t know what am doing wrong but whenever I preview a theme, or try it out, it looks nothing like the theme. This makes it harder to purchase a theme I may have otherwise liked. I am scared to purchase something that I can’t preview. Only cubic works right now and I feel stuck.

Looking at a theme’s demo site is probably a better way of getting a sense of what it looks like once it’s set up. Premium themes are fully refundable for up to 30 days after purchase, so you’re welcome to cancel and refund it if it doesn’t end up suiting your needs.

Sure. However, this also happens with free themes, hence the reason I am skeptical. I can view the demos just fine, but it won’t pick up the theme I chose. For example, if I view(demo) something like…’Orvis’, and go ahead and activate it, my blog still doesn’t look like Orvis. Why is this? This is where I am stuck. It does this with every theme, doesn’t matter if it’s free or not.

Some themes need a bit of setup to look like the demo, particularly those that use custom post types like portfolio projects (as Orvis does) or a special front-page template, like many themes do. You’ll find setup instructions for each theme on the theme showcase. For example, Orvis’s setup guide is here:

I finally purchased the theme. It doesn’t look like the demo and I am trying to customize it, however, I don’t know how to make the layout look like it does on the demo. I am able to edit my content but not the ‘look’ of it. Where can I find directions on how to do this?
