Cant publish posts. They vanish into thin air!

D$%^&*()_)_it. THREE TIMES I composed a marvelous post and three times I saved it them went to look at it and got the following error message:

“You attempted to edit a post that doesn’t exist. Perhaps it was deleted”

I did not delete anything and I watched it save and be published. and yet I cannot view or edit it. What is going on this time please? Yes I am upset. I have lost bookmarks and posts before and now I can’t enter anything new so once again my blogging schedule is disrupted. Not to mention I will have to compose my post all over again for the 4th time since I had been making backups of the entire post AFTER publication so I would have the pics and all.

    HARUMPH!

Yes I know I should see support, but they are closed so I am venting here – is this happenening to anyone else tonight? Or am I the only victim? No lectures please. Just let me let off steam in peace.

    Thanks for listening.

Hi. Definitely talk to support. I’ve never had the error message you’ve had, but I have had similar ones. Something I do now is copy and paste the post into Notebook (any text editor will do) before I save… but because I have photos and URLs linked in the post I copy and paste the html formatting. Hope this helps in the future.

You DID strip out that program you had that was deleting posts, right? I remember, so I have to ask.

Have you considered using an offline blog editor like Blogdesk, Ecto, or WindowsLiveWriter? All but Ecto are free, and they ALWAYS save a copy of your work. Also, they get around all the image uploading problems people have been having.

There’s a program that deletes posts?

  • Unknown's avatar

She had a “clean up code” program running and it had the accidental sideeffect of deleting about 30 posts. It was horrible.

    damn.

Yes I am am not unintelligent. In fact my IQ is relatively high — so I DID remove the program in question – even though I still have SERIOUS DOUBTS that was the culprit (since the program was installed on my pc but never run or used!)

And yes I HAVE considered offline posters and actually tried them all and either I did not feel comfortable with the interface or they WOULD NOT CONNECT to WORDPRESS. My posts here to get assistance in connecting yielded no workable solutions.

And YES I know I should backup my work since after my last episode WordPress was not able to restore all of my posts even though they advertise they do regular backups. There fore I actually PAY to have my blogs backed up now. But I could not back up what never posted!

BUT THE ISSUE NOW is that I was UNABLE TO EVEN POST! If you re-read what I wrote it says that when I hit the publish button the post disapeared!
I also said above that I routinely COPY the posts now after publishing them. That way I have all of the pics, etc. in a program called scrapbook!
Obviously Since now I know WP might decide to EAT the post in the editor I will copy it BEFORE I hit the publish button – it just wont include the pics and all of my formatting.

I am looking for any intelligent responses here until Support finally opens. Maybe this happened to someone else last night?!

Thanks in advance for any pertinent information.

    Thank you

Thanks afeartheseeds. Support is never available to me until later in the day due to the time difference. I will post here has to what they say when I get hold of them.

If you copy it from the html tab, it will include all your coding and links to images.

    Thanks ellaella.

I usually use the visual editor since I am not adept at coding. I appreciate that advice. Consider it done (Smile).

I just tried to post to my blog before I leave work and I was able to create and publish this
    http://oldschoolmusiclover.wordpress.com/2008/05/16/testing-1-2-3/#comment-675.

God willing whatever the problem was has been resolved? and when I get home from work I will try to publish the post I was working on last night.

I did write support but have gotten no response.

Everyone have a good weekend and thanks for YOUR support. I will post here if the WP support responds.

Well I Have heard nothing for support (didn’t really expect to) so whatever the issue was it corrected itself since I can post now to the blog in question. Will close this topic and thanks to you all.

Well it just happened again. on my second blog. same error message when I hit the publish button.

“You attempted to edit a post that doesn’t exist. Perhaps it was deleted?”

Of course I had only copied a version – since I tend to re write and save as I go along.
    But that’s not the issue/problem.

All support is going to tell me belatedly is “that they see I deleted a post” and yet the fact is HOW CAN I DELETE A POST THAT WOULD NOT PUBLISH? So I wont bother to write support this time.

I find it hard to beleive that I am the only one this happens to. Am I also the only one that can’t upload pics on an regular basis since the new WP interface? Am I the only one who can’t add categories until after about 5 tries and getting “the script not working error” message ever since the new interface?

Oh well. I think I will just try to muddle through. Yahoo 360 provides no support either
so I should be used to this by now.

Thanks for listening. I just need to hone up on my defensive blogging techniques just like I have to defensive drive every day on my commute to work.

Seriously, have you missed the several dozen threads on image uploading problems, or the three other threads on disappearing posts? You are hardly the only one. Continue to contact staff, because ONLY they have any ability whatsoever to fix this for you.
