Can't reblog and pingbacks stopped working
-
Hello
Pingbacks used to work on my premium site hosted at wordpress.com. The last few months they haven’t been working but nothing changed in our settings. Pingbacks are enabled in Settings–>Discussion and aren’t disabled on any pages. Right now I’m trying to reblog a post for the first time since the pingbacks stopped working. I’m reblogging from another site hosted at wordpress.com. When I click the blue Reblog button a spinner appears to the left of the button and then it hangs. I’ve tried it 3 times and it’s been saying “Reblogging…” for over 10 minutes with no change. It does the same thing when I use the Reblog button at the top of the page.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. You haven’t specifically mentioned it, so I’m going to ask whether you’ve tried clearing your browser cache and cookies? That might be what’s causing the page to hang when you reblog, so please try that. While you’re at it, also make sure your flash player is updated.

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/If that makes no difference, let us know.

Not all blogs have enabled it. What are the URLs of the specific posts you’re trying to reblog?

It wasn’t a cache issue because I tried it in a new browser with the cache cleared, I just forgot to mention that. I was able to reblog via the Reader in the iPhone app.

I’ve tagged this thread for staff to follow up as I don’t know what else could be the problem. Please be patient while waiting for their response. -
Is this about pingbacks not displaying on the memes on the Staff blog at The Daily Post? If so then see here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/daily-post-pingbacks?replies=1 and watch for Staff updates there.

In order to help you Staff will need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/safari-ipad-clear-cache.htm
http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily. Some adblockers, and incgonito browsing apps and add-ons like ghsotery can cause issues. Know also that security and firewall programs and programs that run incognito mode may need to be temporarily disabled as well.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful Staff know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/
(c) Exactly what you experience including what any error reports you receive state. -

Hi timethief,
I’ve done all the steps except for adding the URLs to my trusted sites because I really don’t think that’s the problem.
6.
(a) Macbook Air Late 2011
(b) I’ve tried the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Opera.
(c) Pingbacks worked for the first 7 months or so, but suddenly stopped after that and haven’t worked for several months now. When I make a post and reference another post on my site, I don’t get a comment awaiting approval like I used to. Same thing (no comment) when I reference another wordpress.com site (they don’t get a pingback) or they reference me. I’m doing the same thing I used to do when referencing another post (choosing the link from within the content editor). For other wordpress.com sites I manually type in the a href link just like I used to. I highly doubt it’s a browser issue since I’ve tried it on so many with cleared cookies, cookies and JS enabled, latest versions, etc. Our site is a premium wordpress.com site and we have our own custom URL purchased though the premium account. I have wondered if it had anything to do with using our custom URL vs our url.wordpress.com, but I’m almost positive I tried it both ways and neither worked. I also wondered if it was getting caught in Akismet but all I see in the spam comments is spam. Please let me know how to proceed.
Thanks!

Hi again! :)
In case it helps, that reblog I made this morning didn’t send a comment to the blog I reblogged from.
This is the article I reblogged…
https://thecounterfeitchristian.wordpress.com/2015/01/08/for-days-of-auld-lang-syne-on-loving-russell/You’ll notice that she gets pingbacks that she sends herself but hasn’t received a pingback comment from me in months (thought I’ve made many links to her). And when I reblogged that article early this morning it failed to work (as I mentioned at the top of this support request). It did work when I tried it from the Reader in the iPhone app and made a new post on my site here…
http://russellandpascal.com/2015/01/15/for-days-of-auld-lang-syne-on-loving-russell/However, if you look at her post, there is no comment or indication that it was reblogged. She hasn’t received any notifications about a comment or reblog of her post.
Thanks!

Hi there,
Thanks for letting us know. We are moving WordPress.com sites over to HTTPS for security reasons, and as part of the transitions we have to change the way some things work. Pingbacks are one of those things.
The good news is the Pingback issue is known and on the list of things being worked on. The bad news is I don’t have a specific timeline for when it will be fixed.
