Can’t receive godaddy webemail!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!
First time poster! I have not been able to receive godaddy emails after I switched from Website Tonight to WordPress. This is quite a catastrophe considering that I’m running a business. Godaddy sent me an e-mail that looks like this….

“Thank you for contacting Online Support. You will need to contact your hosting provider and have them add 4 records to the zone file for your domain name.

    The records to modify are:

    MX Modifications:

    MX 0 smtp.secureserver.net
    MX 10 mailstore1.secureserver.net

    Cname modifications:

    mail.raygunprinting.com mapped to pop.secureserver.net
    email.raygunprinting.com mapped to email.secureserver.net

Once these records have been entered by your hosting company, please allow an average of 48 hours for the propagation of these changes to complete.

Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way.

    Sincerely,

    John C.
    Support

I have no idea HOW to do any of this with wordpress.com without some kind of guidance. It would be greatly appreciated if I could have some input on this matter!

WordPress.com doesn’t HAVE mailservers. It does not offer this; there is, therefore, no way to follow the Godaddy instructions. There’s a workaround with gmail, which is explained here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/

Is it possible Godaddy will forward to another mailbox, perhaps your personal email?

It is possible to use a host like godaddy for email

My email is on my old host – these were the records I had to add in the DNS area I think

    `A mail 255.255.255.255
    MX 10 mail.my-domain.com.’

I have a static IP which went in the numbers section – the end result was that all my old email works the same after my move onto WordPress.COM and I am on the same mail servers as I used before the move – took a few tries and some info from my former host and a bit of help from the staff as WordPress.COM uses a bit different short hand than my old host was used to.

    raincoaster,
I think what godaddy is saying is that the WordPress DNS entries should point the MX records to secureserver.net, which is godaddy’s mail provider. It is also sugesting mapping the CNAME aliases for pop and smtp servers.

This CAN be done from the dashboard Settings->Domains and selecting the “Edit DNS” for the appropriate domain, in this case raygunprinting.com

Ah, thanks. I have a hard time deciphering these kinds of things.

I just had the EXACT same conversation with GoDaddy. I called and they gave me the same MX updates. It’s because you changed your nameserves and host- it changes the MX records which loses connection to your email.

They said I should call WordPress to follow up and make sure I put in everything correctly. Lucky for me, the only way I can CALL anyone is if I fork over $5000. Wonderful business plan.

WordPress.com doesn’t have a phone support service anyway.

    knlove and raincoaster:

Don’t you just enter the A, C, and MX records as per these instructions?

Hey, thanks for the help everyone. I had managed to fix it a day afterwards by entering the MX records into wordpress with jcollier’s linked instructions.

    Thanks!

    Andy
