Can't Register a Domain.

  I tried to register my new blog kirstenwrites.com. The name is unavailable on as wordpress.com but I planned on paying for it. I was not sent to a payment screen but instead the name came out as kirstenwrites.com.wordpress.com. When I try to upgrade it says the name is no longer available. How do I pay for the .com?

  That particular domain does appear to be available. Please try adding it to your blog via Store -> Domains in your blog’s Dashboard.
