Can't register a new blog
-
I tried registering a new blog (using a new identity and email) with the ‘Get started’ wizard, but once I selected a theme, it doesn’t go any further and as I haven’t been able to provide my details or obtain a password, I’m stuck.
Any help at all please? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Were you logged out of WordPress.com completely when you tried to do this? If you tried creating a new site while logged in the site would have been created in this account, which appears to be the case as I can see the site orsoncartblog.wordpress.com was created yesterday.
If that’s the site you want in a different account, please follow these steps:
1) Log out of WordPress.com and clear your browser cookies for WordPress.com to ensure you’re completely logged out.
2) Use this link to create a new account without creating yet another site.
https://wordpress.com/start/account/user/
3) Log out of the new account and back into this one. Go to this page and click the Transfer Blog link under the site you want to transfer:
https://orsoncartblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/index.php?page=my-blogs
Follow the steps and the site will be transferred to the new account. Make sure you transfer to the correct account, though, as this cannot be reversed.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for your reply.
I must be a bit thick: I cleared my cache and cookies and clicked the link in 2) in your reply, where I entered my new email address and ‘orsoncartblog’ user name. An error notice appeared saying I couldn’t use the selected user name. Have I misunderstood you? -
I couldn’t resolve the issues, so I started a clean site – https://orsoncartatlarge.wordpress.com/
I now have two other issues:
1) The Meta widget has disappeared and isn’t a choice when adding another widget.
2) In the post itself, the text background is pale blue. In my other blog (using the same theme) it’s white and I can’t see any means of changing it.
Any help would be much appreciated. -
The reason you couldn’t select orsoncartblog is because you had already created the matching address. If you transfer that site to your other account, you’ll be able to change the account’s username to match the site. Sorry, I should have clarified that in my previous reply.
1) The Meta widget has disappeared and isn’t a choice when adding another widget.
The Meta widget was retired early this year as less than 0.1% of users were using it. Sites that already had it active can keep using it, but it’s not available for any new site.
Part of the reasoning behind that was that the meta widget is only valuable to you, the site owner. Visitors to your site cannot do anything with it. And you can access the features that used to be in that widget via the My Sites link in the top bar if you’re logged in, and you can use the action bar bottom right to log in if you’re logged out.
2) In the post itself, the text background is pale blue. In my other blog (using the same theme) it’s white and I can’t see any means of changing it.
It looks like you have that post set as a sticky post. Your theme displays sticky posts with a blue background and regular posts without it.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/post-visibility/#sticky-posts
If you un-sticky it the background will go away.
Unrelated, but I notice you have quite a few tags on that post. You should be aware that if you use more than 15 tags and categories combined your posts won’t be listed under those tags in the Reader. Post tags are only used internally, not by search engines, and by adding too many tags you actually make it harder for people on WordPress.com to find your site via the Reader, so try to use only the ones most relevant to your post.

Thanks for your continued help!
I don’t appear to have an action bar at bottom right. The only way I can log out is by clicking the button at top right and selecting Sign Out which takes me to WordPress without the usual window which facilitates signing back in again.
Also, there’s no stats bar at the top and if I click on My Site, there’s no black sidebar with admin etc. The only way I can access the black sidebar is to scroll to the bottom of a post and click on Edit. Are these more recent upgrades?
It all seems very clunky and difficult to navigate.

I can see the action bar on your site, here:
https://cloudup.com/c0lNmfrS2m9
That should be visible whether you’re logged in or logged out. It is hidden if you scroll down a site, but reappears when you scroll back up. It does not contain the log out option, though. The only way to log out now is via the Profile page.
The stats ticker at the top has been removed, yes, and we’ve updated the menu when you click on My Sites. The new menu no longer shows the link to WP-Admin, so you’ll need to bookmark that link instead if you use the WP-Admin dashboard regularly.

Found it! I was looking in one of the bottom widget areas. Thanks for your help.
I don’t know why anyone new to WordPress would chose it over any of the competition (unless they are worse); it’s absolutely hideous now!
