Can't register our domain name

Our domain name had been maintained by another person who is no longer with us. It has been registered by a different person who is ready to hand it off to me. But I cannot register it because the first person who left had set it up in WordPress. I wish to have the domain name transferred to me and have WordPress handle the renewal automaically for us. I certainly do not want to wait until it expires and then try and re-add it to WordPress. I haven’t been able to contact the first person to edit the domain mapping on WordPress to get it transferred to me.

How can I get this done?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,
Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner and it is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and associated email address.

Below is what the blog’s owner must do.

You must be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchased upgrades to renew them or transfer the blogs and the upgrades to another username account.

To transfer a blog from one username account A to another username account B you must first log in under the username account A that owns the blog you want to transfer to the other username account.

Then you add the other username account B as an Admin of the blog.
    adding users http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/
    user roles http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/

Then you A can use this process to transfer the blog to that username account B instead http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Then see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#transferring-upgrades if applicable.

I haven’t been able to contact the first person to edit the domain mapping on WordPress to get it transferred to me.

That’s unfortunate because they own the blog and you don’t. :(

When I click on the “Edit Domain” button it just takes me to a page to edit emails and DNS, nothing on updating Contact Information.

Thank you so much for responding and letting me know what needs to be done. It wasn’t clear how to transfer the blog before. I am trying to contact the previous owner of this blog to get it transferred.
