Can't remove Information/Shortlink from sidebar

    the sidebar on my blog lets me put widgets in, of course. however, there is information above my top widget i didn’t install and don’t want there. it’s only on the post entry pages, but it’s pushing down the widgets i want to display.

    i know i could get rid of it if i was on my own server, but is there a way with wordpress.com? i really have no need for this information and don’t know why anyone would want it there.

    it’s everything above What’s Hot in the right sidebar.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    We cannot help you here at WordPress.com with that site linked to your username as it’s not being hosted by WordPress.com and we run on different software. This is the correct forum for your software http://wordpress.ORG/support/

    Sorry. :(

    it’s everything above What’s Hot in the right sidebar.

    You are referring to screen option modules which don’t appear on the front of blog at all. You can hide them.

    as far as i can figure out, that’s not what i’m talking about. that seems to be for controlling modules, etc., inside the admin area. i’m looking to eliminate content that’s showing up on my blog posts that i haven’t put there.

    on this page, in the right hand column is an area that starts with Information, then Shortlink, then Navigation. i want to remove those…never installed them in the first place as far as i know.

    thanks. :-)

    Aha! Now I know what you are asking. We cannot edit templates or themes. All blogs here are on the same multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme use the same underlying template. Only Staff can access and edit those files and when they do every edit they makes affects all blogs wearing the same theme.

    Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
    No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content. more here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

    could you make it so our selected widgets show above it? :-)

    really, though, why can’t that content be a widget that installs but that we have the option to move or remove? i’d think that more folk that just me have wanted that gone.

    i wish i’d have known, i’d have not paid you all the 43 bucks i did for custom design and url forwarding and would have just put that toward hosting on dreamhost or something like that.

    Well the navigation one is useful. It’s what allows you to go to the previous or next post. Every now and then some of the CSS gurus can come up with ways you can hide elements using CSS. I don’t know if it’s possible with these and not sure if hiding would equal moving the widgets up. But rethink getting rid of the navigation. Hopefully someone will come by with a CSS solution.

    Do you know how to add the css with your custom upgrade?

    If so, place this in your area to add css and see if it will do what you want.

    ..meta-information{display: none;}
    .meta-shortlink {display: none;}

    If not, read this link first:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#custom-css/

    I have not checked to see if this might have any ramifications… such as you may want this information displayed somewhere and I think this will cause it not to display wherever it may be.

    let me know if that a. removes the information and shortlink … and leaves the next post and moves your widgets up.
