Can't rename a blog – it says the name is taken, while that blog name is free

  Hi,
  I wanted to change my blog name from lYOgkayaatletika to lEgkayaatletika. (change “YO” to “E”). It says the name is taken. When I go to legkayaatletika.wordpress.com, it says it is “no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.”

  Actually, it was me who created this blog first. So I used to have 2 blogs with similar names. Then I decided to delete one, and rename the other one to have E instead of YO. And right after I deleted the blog and next minute wanted to rename the existing one, it started to say the name is not available. So I don’t think someone else has taken it.
  It could be some system glitch.

  How can I rename my blog to legkayaatletika, to match my username?

  It isn’t a system glitch. When you deleted the blog you received three warnings saying it was final and irreversible.

  You said delete, so it did.
  Sorry, the blog name is gone.

  So since the name is gone and hence is available, can I rename my existing blog and to that name that was deleted?
  I deleted legkayaatletika. It is available. I want to rename my other blog and take this name. How can I do this?

  No, WordPress blog names are never recycled.

  Since it was deleted by mistake, like in my case (if I knew I can’t give this name to my other blog, I wouldn’t have deleted it), can you restore it? Or rename my current blog?

  Plus, I’m the original owner and not someone else taking over the blog name like in the article you provided.

  I’m just a fellow blogger, so I cannot do anything. In my experience staff never restore blogs for people who accidentally delete. Everyone thinks that they are a special case, and have special reasons why they either did not read or did not understand the three warnings (including one in the request for email confirmation) which say that the address will be gone for ever.

  My advice would be to pick another name or use domain mapping to map a domain (e.g. legkayaatletika.com without the “wordpress” in it).
