Can't reset custom permalinks

  I was instructed to temporarily change my custom permalink to reset my site, and now when I try to go back to the custom structure, WP won’t let me. It just jumps to one of the default structures. I did find a plugin to redirect all my 404 pages, but it’s causing me other trouble and I really need to reset it. Any suggestions?
