Can't Retrieve Transferred Blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I tried to transfer my blog earlier to my other user account, currently working on building a new site for my company. However, that account never received the transfer and whenever I try to log in to wordpress.com it says the user name doesn’t exist – even though I am logged into the site I am currently building. I’m afraid my blog has somehow gone to another user but still don’t understand how I can be logged in to a wordpress site and get a message that I don’t have an account.

  • Hi there,

Can you please let me know your blog’s address so I can have a look?

  • Hi there,

Yes, you sent it to the username cfitzgerald. Is that correct? If not, what username were you trying to transfer the site to?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, which I’m starting to think is not my username even though it is the one I am editing the other site under. Every time I try to log in with it I get en error that the password is wrong even though it is not. And it isn’t able to log me in with my email that I am using to edit the other website (website is posigen.com/staging/ and user email is (email visible only to moderators and staff))

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, which I am beginning to think is not my other username somehow. My other account is set up under (email visible only to moderators and staff) with username cfitzgerald and is editing posigen.com/staging/

  • Hi there,

If you know the current password for your account, you can change it by following these instructions below:

    Passwords

You can also change your password from the Settings tab on the WordPress.com home page:

    https://wordpress.com/me/security

If you don’t have access to your account or forgot the password, you can request a new password by entering your email address here:

    http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword

Please carefully follow the instructions. You’ll receive an email during the reset process, so make sure that you read it for instructions. If you don’t receive the email right away, check your spam folder, as well, because the confirmation email can end up there.

Once you’ve reset your account password, you can see our suggestions for choosing a strong password here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/selecting-a-strong-password/

    Cheers,

I’ve tried all these methods, but can’t seem to log in. I received a notice that I changed my password as user cfitzgerald, but when I go to wordpress.com to log in and enter the email address associated with the username it says user does not exist. Is there a way to recover the blog? I can’t access it on either account now and I have no idea why.

  • That email address is not associated with the cfitzgerald account. Here’s what you can try to access the account:

In the password reset form (https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword) enter that username (cfitzgerald) instead of the email address and then check all the email accounts you have access to for the password reset message.

I tried. It seems there are two account? I just logged into the other site under this username but it has no access to the blog and a different userpic than displayed. Is there a way to get my blog back?

  • If you were able to log in to the cfitzgerald account then you’ll be able to transfer your blog back to your posigenblog account by following these instructions:

    Transfer a Site

  • My other account is set up under (email redacted) with username cfitzgerald and is editing posigen.com/staging/

Forgive me, but wouldn’t that mean that cfitzgerald is the username on a site outside of WordPress.com hosting and therefore cannot have a site here transferred to it? The staging site isn’t hosted at WordPress.com and doesn’t appear to be using Jetpack to allow a WordPress.com account to edit it. The cfitzgerald account here in the WordPress.com system might be a different person.

  • Yeah, I’m thinking darciemg is right.

    @posigenblog
, can you confirm the email address for the other WordPress.com username you meant to transfer to? It should not be the same as the one listed here:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account

If you have a cfitzgerald account that has that address on it, I would guess too that it’s actually a username on a WordPress.org installation. Let us know what you’re trying to do by trying to transfer to that user, and we’ll try to help point you in the right direction.

  • Unknown's avatar

The email address I was trying to transfer to is (email visible only to moderators and staff)

We’re building a new site and I wanted to transfer the blog over there. The previous manager of the blog had just exported some of the posts but left most of the new stuff unposted so they weren’t syncing. Plus I didn’t want an extra blog floating around after the new site goes live.

I’m guessing your right about WordPress.com vs .org – I did not realize there was a difference. Now I’m just trying to get the blog back and I guess I’ll just have to export the remaining posts and then just stop using the blog.

  • There is no WordPress.com account associated with the email address you gave above.

The cfitzgerald WordPress.com account to which you transferred the site was created in 2008, and is associated with a completely different email address. I can see several recent password reset attempts on that account, which I suspect was you, but otherwise it doesn’t look like that account has been active in years.

So it sounds to me like you transferred the site to a WordPress.com username you don’t actually own. Would you agree?

If that’s the case, the other account now owns the site, and we’ll need to email them to ask for their permission first before we can transfer it back to your account.

Please confirm if you want us to try and reverse this ownership transfer.

That must be what happened. The account I have under cfitzgerald must be for editing the site I’m working on only and was created a few weeks ago.

Please try to reverse ownership, that blog needs to be linked with the business site I am working on. Thanks.

  • Thanks posigenblog, we’re working on that now and will update you when we have more information. Cheers!

  • Unknown's avatar

Thank you. Is there any update?

  • Hi @posigenblog, thanks for checking in. We were waiting to hear back from the person you transferred it to, but it’s apparent now they won’t be responding.

I was able to transfer ownership back to your posigenblog account.

If you need more help, can you let us know?

Thank you so much!! Since I clearly did it wrong the last time, how would I be able to get this blog on our website posigen.com/staging ?
