Can’t see text on post!
-
Hi, not sure what I’ve done wrong but I can see text on posts I’ve created on a tablet but when I want to view it on laptop there’s nothing there, hope that makes sense!
-
Hi @welforddave — could you send a link to the site you’re having trouble with?
Also, please note these forums are for the sites hosted and managed here at WordPress.com, vs using the free WordPress software with another host. If you’re not sure about your site, send a link and we can point you in the right direction.
-
Also, for what it’s worth, I checked every site on your account from my laptop, and can see text on all of them. Send more details and we’ll help you get to the bottom of this. Cheers!

Hi, thanks for your reply, the only site I use is walks with welf, the others were ones I created when I was learning how to use wordpress so probably ought to be deleted. Not sure what the problem is but it could be related to the fact that, when editing, I can’t see the double row of tools below add media, add poll etc. I’d send you a screenshot but not sure I can do so on this forum. So, can’t see any text although if I right hand click where the text goes then I can see it although it’s in something akin to html typeface. If it helps, and as you may see, I’ve signed up for two years worth of personal support. In short, help!
-
Ah, glad you signed up for the personal plan if it’s helpful for you! You can get direct support if you’d like, as well as get rid of ads and what not. It’s a great value. So you can request help again here to get direct support, or we can continue here.
Either way, could you upload the screenshots here?
https://wordpress.com/mediaOr you can also use https://snipboard.io
More context is better, so if you can avoid cropping things off that would be great.
-
Hopefully you can see on media, if you can then the first one shows ‘normal’ view, second one is if I right hand click and select all…
-
Hmm, I didn’t see any screenshots as images. I clicked through all of the sites, too. I did see a document but wasn’t sure if that was what I needed to look at.
Could you link us to the uploaded file, or confirm which site you uploaded it to?
Also, you mentioned deleting the old sites:
And removing the extras may help with clarity while we troubleshoot this issue. If you’d like, you can export each one, and import it into your new site:
https://wordpress.com/support/export/Or, if you want to keep this new site just about walks, you could choose one site extra site to keep and import your posts into that.
Then, you can remove the sites one at a time here:
https://wordpress.com/settingsJuste note you won’t be able to use those addresses again (they’ll be permanently closed rather than “freed up”) so if you like them, just keep them and make them private.

All sites deleted apart from walkswithwelf. The document (docx) is lurking at the top of media. It’s called pain if that helps

Got it — I see now, the text shows up on your site, but in the classic editor, the text is white on a white background.
I can’t duplicate it here, even on that post you mentioned.
Is that happening in every post? Are you using this link?
https://walkswithwelf.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=3253&action=edit&classic-editorAnd, if you use a different browser, does the text show then?
-
Yes, happens in every post but only on laptop – everything is fine on iPad! I’d stick to iPad but I struggle to add links for some reason and it’s easier to type on laptop. Got to be some reason why I can’t see those two rows of tools though… However, the good news is I can see everything on Chrome. Woohoo! What’s all that about though? Should I ditch Microsoft Edge forever?

I’d be willing to be there’s some setting in Edge specifying the white text, though honestly I’m not sure what it would be, since I don’t have a Windows system here.
If you can pin down when this started and see what changed on your browser around that time, that may help. Also, they have a forum that may have answers for you. For example, this person was running into a similar issue, and the tech there had them reset some settings.
For now though I’m glad it’s working in Chrome!

Think I’ll stick to Chrome – don’t want to make life too complicated. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. In terms of the website, I’m all ears if you’ve got ideas for improvements.
