Can't See Themes When I Search (Enfold, Sparkling, etc..)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

I’m setting up a new website with WordPress, but when I go through the Dashboard to Themes, when I search for a particular theme that I know exists, it just comes up saying WordPress couldn’t find it.

I’m stumped on this one, as I’m hesitant to install my desired theme manually and I can’t see why it’d be the case that I can’t search within my own Dashboard. If I’m outside of the Dashboard and on general WordPress site I can find the themes listed.

I’d be really grateful if someone knew what I might be doing wrong here.
    Thanks

    Hello,
There are over 300 themes available to use on a WordPress.com blog. If you can’t find the one you want using a name search, you haven’t done anything wrong. It’s just not available.

Also, custom themes cannot be uploaded: https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

You may consider trying the Custom Design upgrade to change an available theme so it’s more in line with what you’re wanting:

Alternatively, you could choose to set up a WordPress blog on the host of your choice and then you’d have access to all WordPress themes: https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

    Hi Micawbr, thanks for replying.

Do you have to have the Premium version of WordPress to get access to all the themes then?
I also noticed on my Dashboard that I don’t have a plugin menu. On a different WordPress that I manage (but didn’t create) I can see all themes and all plugins.

Regarding hosting a site, I already have a hosting plan that I intend to move my site over to. Does that mean after DNS change I would get access to all themes?

  • It sounds like you signed up for a WordPress.com account, when you really meant to create a self-hosted site on your own hosting instead.

Here on the shared WordPress.com platform, you choose from among the themes in our showcase, and it’s not possible to install plugins because we already have a pre-selected range of features build in.

You can learn more here about the differences between self-hosted WordPress sites and WordPress.com:

If I can help with anything else, just let me know.
