I have the same problem as wearepartyon. On august 5 I successfully uploaded images from my computer for a gallery. Tonight (Aug. 11) I get no response from the “Select Files” box, though my pointer turns into a hand. I am using IE in the same configuration as on Aug. 5 and am editing a new post.

Hi,
I contacted WordPress yesterday (Mon) to report a problem with uploading images to the image gallery. I see that there have been a number of other WP users reporting the same difficulty over the last two days, so I don’t think the problem is at our end. We can’t all have simultaneous problems with our browser settings or cache contents. I suspect that it’s some problem with the WordPress servers – hopefully it’ll be fixed soon, the service is usually first-rate. -
Hi there,
I’d definitely recommend starting with the first two steps timethief mentioned earlier. That is, please make sure your browser is updated to the most recent version: http://browsehappy.com/
And please make sure that if you’re using Internet Explorer, compatibility mode is turned off for WordPress.com: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
If you still have trouble uploading files after that, please let me know exactly what browser you’re using, including the version number. If you’re not sure, you can check here: http://supportdetails.com/
Following the other steps timethief mentioned may also help you narrow down what’s going wrong with the file uploads, but with more details about your browser setup I can also help do some troubleshooting with you to sort out what’s going on.
Thanks!

Hi rachelmcr,
Thanks for looking at this. I’m running IE 9.0 on a PC with Vista. I’ve tried upgrading but the MS download site says that IE11 isn’t compatible with my system. I’ve tried turning off compatibility mode and that doesn’t help.
I’ve been running WordPress sites for a few years
http://seeingstages.com and recently http://stratmastorisphotography.com with a number of photographs on each (though using less than 5% of my available space) and I’ve had no problems at all until now. Thanks again, Strat Mastoris

Thanks for letting me know those details. Our developers are investigating the issue to see if we can track down what’s going wrong, and that helps us narrow down our search.
So far the problem seems to be specific to IE 9.0 on Windows Vista. Our tests with IE 9.0 on other operating systems have worked, and we aren’t getting reports of this issue with other browsers. Could you try downloading a different browser from http://browsehappy.com/ to see if the media upload works for you there?

Hi rachelmcr,
I think you’re right – the problem seems to be specific to IE 9. I can’t use IE 11 but I’ve installed Google Chrome and that’s working fine with the WordPress site. Images upload perfectly.
Thanks so much. Strat

Good pointer! Though I’m using the same settings on my IE 9 that were successful August 5, there is no “compatability mode” icon on the address bar, I went to WordPress this morning before opening anything else, and did a cleanout of old IE files with Norton 360–it still didn’t work. Just now I opened my WordPress dashboard in Firefox, and it works–for whatever reason–IE 9, a WordPress bug or a combination. I hope an Automatician checks this out to make sure what the situation is for all of us.

Thanks for letting me know that the other browsers are working for you. :)
We’re still investigating the issue with IE 9, but so far we haven’t been able to reproduce the problem on our end (which makes it a little hard to find the cause). A little more information about your setup might help us figure out what’s going on:
If you have any add-ons installed in IE 9, please try turning them off temporarily to see if the problem continues:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/manage-add-ons
Please also check to see if your browser settings or any security software you’re running (like Norton 360) is blocking pop ups in IE 9. It’s possible that a pop-up blocker could be blocking the window that comes up after you click on “Select Files.”
