I created this account to test the free version of wordpress and I am ready to create a real business account. However, wordpress is not recognizing my business domain as a “real” email address.

Please help me resolve this so I can purchase a business account.

    Hi there,

Can you please tell us the exact error message you’re able to see on your screen while using that business email?
Are you trying to create a new WordPress account using your business email address?

Please let us know to assist you further.

    Thanks!

Yes I am trying to create a new account with the business email. The error seen is as follows:

“! Use a working email address, so you can receive our messages.”

My business email address is: (email visible only to moderators and staff)

    Hi masekron195,

It would be great if you could make a screenshot of what you are seeing:

    Take a Screenshot

Please include the whole page and upload the screenshot to your Media Library. There’s no need to share a link to the screenshot here, I’ll be able to find it.

    Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the screen shot. I’ve had a look.

    – Does clearing your browser cache help?

    – What happens if you try to use a different web browser?

Cleared browser cache and tried IE11 and still getting the same message.

Thanks, would you like us to just go ahead and create the account for you with that address? We can’t seem to run into the same trouble you’re seeing, regardless of the browser we use.

We’ve wondered if there might be a space or some invisible character in email somewhere. In any case since we can get that far here, we don’t mind starting the account for you and letting you take it from there. Let us know your thoughts.

I suppose that works, although it makes me nervous about using your service. I checked for extra spaces and it appears that when I delete the “p” out of nesequipment.com it works. Whether the “p” is removed or replaced with any other letter, it lets me submit it. As soon as I put the “p” back in the domain it gives me the same error.

    Not sure if that helps.

We’ve created an account for you; did you get the invitation? You can change the username if you’d like.

Very strange. I’ve just tried sending a password reset email. Are you able to get that?

In case anyone else runs into this, we found a solution.

The problem seems to be that you’re signing up with yourbusinessaddress.com and then trying to use (email visible only to moderators and staff) .

If you use a different, nonbusiness address, it works just fine. You can even change back to your business address after signup.

    Here’s what’s happening:
The form presumes that email address does not work yet, even though you could well be staging a new site. We’ll work on a fix for that here.

Personally, I recommend using an outside address anyway. If you ever had an issue with your domain that was bringing your site down, your email address wouldn’t work either, and we’d have a hard time reaching you.

But if you definitely want to use your business address on your site for your business account (which I understand, it makes sense) you can get around this by using a different address for signup, then changing it. Or, start a new browser session and use a random capital letter in your email domain, as the user in our github issue did. And, if you need help, just get in touch with us and we’ll do what we can. :)
