Can't STAND the new editor

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been reading about how to get directly from a post to the old editor. I HATE the new one. Sorry. It gives me a horrible headache, the fonts and everything are just so so frustrating. The layout is beyond depressing for me and I am online on my sites 10 hours a day. This does not work at all for me.

In the other forums it says if you click on the Edit link on an individual post it takes you to the old editor. But you have to go through the new one to do so and that MAJORLY complicates, adds time and is all around terrible.

PLEASE give me an option somewhere to turn it off completely. I never want to see it again. I love you guys but this is infuriating. Makes me not want to write at all.

Some may like it but for me it is migraine material on so many fronts. I used to use the EDIT link in the post a lot. PLEASE give me a direct option either through the drop down upper left menu or in the post itself. The best would be a way for me to opt out of this completely through some kind of toggle on our personal preferences or under the writing settings.

Pretty please help. Thank you EVER so much.

PS You guys are fabulous and I so appreciate all the help you have given in the past. I wouldn’t use any other platform. But the new editor just doesn’t work for me. If you can just add a setting somewhere to turn it off… I’d be so so so so so so so so so appreciative.

    Hi Michele,

Wow, 10 hours a day! That is rough. I’m sorry to hear that you aren’t a fan.

You should have run across a banner by now which gives you the option to be routed to the older editor when you click on links. It was supposed to go live late last week. If you haven’t seen it yet, let me know and I’ll see what’s going on. That should set your preference for a several weeks, at which point the newer editor will have a whole bunch new improvements and I hope you will give it another try!

Let me know if you don’t see that banner. :)

Hi- yes saw the click through link but it doesn’t reset anything. I have to click through every time on every blog. It would be awesome please to be able to set a preference even permanently, but I’d settle for several weeks :-) Would you mind looking to see if we could at least get the every few weeks option worked out? Thank you!

We’ve heard that there have been some problems with the opt-out link not working as well for some users. Our developers have worked on that and a new version was rolled out over the weekend, so hopefully it should be able to opt you in to being directed to the older editor from most of the original links (but please note that several links were already directing you to the newer editor, those links won’t be changing at this time).

Hi again… still no luck at all on the opt out to the old editor working for me so for what ever reason it is not working on this, or any of my other wordpress.com sites as constantly clicking through is am major time drain with the amount of editing I am doing.

Am trying to get used to the new editor but still *sorry to say* pretty much can’t stomach it.

The old editor is gorgeous- all the beautiful contrast and everything super easy to see, the new one has no contrast and photos drive me batty because it is put up against the baby blue background and I have to publish them to even see what they would approximate on white. I am an early adopter and usually love change but this is nails on a chalkboard visually for what I need it to do and I can’t easily get to my dashboard links at all from it either…

Pretty please sweet talk someone into creating a general opt out for those of us who have to spend 12 hrs a day dealing with it. Or at least one that sticks for a month… you have been super helpful and I appreciate it. A lot.

Is there anyone I can escalate this to at least to put a formal request/feedback as to why for visual designers and professional users this new format is a huge and super frustrating downgrade. I’d even be willing to pay an affordable annual fee like for ads if I could turn it off for my main sites.

Thank you for your ongoing help.

I totally understand your frustration, and I’m very sorry for that.

Just this morning there was word that the “opt-out” link has been modified to work in a different way for those who have mapped domains. Apparently it wasn’t sticking correctly previously.

If that doesn’t work, the thing that I could best recommend would be to bookmark this link:

    https://theunpavedroad.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php

It will go directly to the old editor and will allow you to post from there whenever you want. Make sure that your bookmark matches that link perfectly though, if you start editing before you bookmark you could go back to that post every time you click it, which would be bad!

To answer your other questions though (and thanks for your kind words), we are specifically not creating a permanent opt-out right now for the other editor (though this link is supposed to persist for 6 weeks as long as you aren’t working in incognito mode on your browser). I have also been adding your feedback to our queue this whole time, so your voice has been heard (and might I say, thank you for being so polite. It’s wonderful).

Let me know if there’s anything else I can do and please let me know if the opt-out link works this time. I’m really frustrated that it’s not working for you!

Fantastic! I’m so glad to hear that it’s improved your day a bit. I’ll be sure to pass that on.

And I really do hope you give the new editor a try some time in the future. We’re going to be working on it and other newer iterations and I hope you’ll be pleased! :)
