Can’t switch to draft

  I am trying to switch all my pages to draft, but nothing happens. That is, they’re all showing as draft in my Dashboard, but they all remain published. I’ve tried this as a bulk action and each page individually. However, my website is still visible (published) even to people on different computers who are only logging on to my website for the first time (so no cache or cookie problems). I want it to be invisible to the public while I work on it.
