Can't switch to new domain name provider after domain name expired

Hi, could anyone help with how to update wordpress after buying a new domain name?
Our community group has a wordpress blog fairlandpark.wordpress.com which was mapped to a domain name of fairlandpark.org. That .org name expired and no one in our group knew the email logon details of who registered it so we couldn’t renew the name. Eventually it became available for sale again and we purchased failandpark.org again last week from a different name provider.
But now we can’t get wordpress to work with the new name and when trying to go to fairlandpark.org it gets the wordpress page saying “Oh no! This blog’s domain fairlandpark.org expired 113 days ago!”
Poking around in wordpress i wondered about the “Request Transfer Code” at https://wordpress.com/my-domains/ which i’ve clicked and it says its sent an email, but i suppose that is to the old email account that none of us know anymore.
Can anyone help with what we need to do now to update in wordpress to fix that so it works with the newly purchased name?
