Can't transfer my domain from WordPress.com because it was privately registered

Apparently I cannot transfer my domain to another service because it was privately registered and its transfer is locked. Can this be changed?
When I tried to transfer it to siteground, I got this message:
- “The status of this domain is REGISTRAR-LOCKED. We are unable to initiate transfer procedures for LOCKED domains. Please contact your current domain registrar and ask them to unlock the domain. Once it is unlocked try the transfer procedure again. Please note that after your registrar unlocks your domain it may take up to 24 hours for the status change to propagate globally and you may not be able to initiate the transfer during this propagation time.
Additionally, for the transfer, we will also need the domain name EPP code (or Authorization code). “
Please help!!
