Can't type my new post in the right place

I have just come back to WordPress after a medical absence of a couple of years. I am trying to create a New Post and find I am in alien territory. Everything I knew is gone. I am posting on these windows that don’t seem to be the right thing to post on. I click on New Post and this page comes up with several windows stacked one above the other. On the left is a place for pictures to be uploaded. I did that. Now I am trying to see where you want me to place the actual text of the post. The first window seems wrong; it doesn’t stay in place and flips up and down like crazy. OK so I tried to copy/paste it into the bottom window, which is longer, maybe that’s it. I am wondering where do you want me to type the actual new post? Why did you change to this crazy format? What happened to the perfectly nice and sensible format you had when I was last here? Tell me where to type my post, please, I am confused. And right now the type is flipping up and down also. Even here. I have Explorer. Do I need a different browser perhaps? Thanks.
