Can't update a page…
-
Hi,
I’m trying to update this page but I can’t :
No error message, but when I click the update button, it runs forever.
After few test, the page size doesn’t seem to be the problem. It looks to me that the number of link could be the issue.
Does anybody know it there a limited number of link allowed by page?
And, if so, why there is no error message?
Thanx,
Loïc

Your issue has nothing to do with the number of links on a page. You are using the new Beep Beep Boop editor that I refuse to use. I use the classic editor at > Dashboard > Posts > Add New. Please try using it too.

Okay then what you describe “when I click the update button, it runs forever” sounds like a browser related issue or connectivity issue.
Please work through what follows and report back.
1. If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
2. If you are using an IE browser in compatibility mode please disable that mode. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view
3. If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/
(a) Try clearing your browser’s cache http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
If applicable see here for instructions on how to clear the cache for Chrome and Safari on the iPad:

http://browsers.about.com/od/howtousemobilebrowser1/ss/How-To-Clear-Browsing-Data-In-Chrome-For-Ipad_6.htm(b) Make sure that you have both third-party cookies enabled and JavaScript enabled
http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654(c) Disable all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily.
(d) Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
Add both *.wordpress.com and *.wp.com to your list of trusted sites under the Security tab. Make sure to uncheck the box for “Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone.” http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/#frequently-asked-questions
4. You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not then go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash.
5. Try using another browser.
6. If you are not successful let us know:
(a) Exactly what kind of device you are using to connect to the internet and to WordPress.com.
(b) Exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://supportdetails.com/ -
I think it’s definitly not a browser issue since I can edit my page by clicking the update button if I don’t try to add one more link.
I first met the issue when I tried to add about 20 links.
I went back to the previous version of my page and then added my links one by one, updating every time. It works ok up to a certain number of links.
Then, if I edit the page again to add text, no problem. But if I try to add one more link, then the bug happens.
That’s why I’m pretty sure it’s about the number of link (we’re talking about something like 1000 links…)

Any more than 100 links on a page in any site prompts search spiders to report the site to the search engines as a possible link farm.

You will have to ask Google about that. http://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/ I always make sure my internal links on any page do not exceed 100 links.

So a maximum number of link in a single wordpress page which lead to a bug doesn’t ring a bell to anyone? :-/
-
There is no maximum set by WordPress.COM that I am aware of and I have been answering questions here for over 8 years ie. years longer than almost all Staff have even been on Staff. But I’ll tag this thread for a Staff response in case I’m wrong. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

No, there isn’t a maximum as @timethief stated, but to be honest I haven’t run into a user with thousands of links in a post. There are flags on sites that link dump, but yours has been cleared.
Are you still having this issue?
